Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with other security agencies, have foiled a bandit attack and recovered 45 rustled animals after armed men invaded a Fulani settlement in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:50 p.m. on Feb. 20 when suspected armed bandits stormed Gogalo Fulani Settlement Camp, located along the Nigeria–Niger border, and rustled a number of goats.
The attackers reportedly shot and injured a resident, Abdullahi Wada, 25, before fleeing toward the border axis.
On receiving a distress call, troops and joint patrol teams comprising police, military personnel and community watch operatives were mobilised to the scene.
The injured victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital Jibia for medical attention.
The security teams subsequently blocked suspected escape routes at Yan No-No area, where they intercepted the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a sustained gun battle.
During the encounter, the attackers were overpowered and forced to abandon the stolen livestock as they escaped into nearby bush paths.
All 45 rustled animals were successfully recovered during the operation.
Authorities said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while patrols had been intensified across border communities to forestall further attacks.
