Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with police and local vigilantes, have rescued 17 kidnapped girls in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the rescue followed a coordinated response to an attack by armed bandits on Aug. 31.
The source said the bandits, in large numbers, invaded Bargaja village and abducted girls who had gone to fetch firewood in the forest.
“In the process, the criminals shot and killed two farmers who were working on their farms before security forces mobilised to the scene.
“Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, supported by police tactical teams and vigilantes, engaged the bandits in a heavy gun battle which lasted for hours.
“The joint forces successfully rescued the 17 kidnapped girls, while the bandits retreated towards the Niger Republic border,” the source said.
According to the sources , the rescued girls were handed over to Isa Local Government authorities, while aggressive patrols have been intensified in the area to forestall further attacks.
