Troops Repel Militia Attack, Rescue Gunshot Victim in Riyom

Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have repelled an attack by unidentified militias on residents of Agwan Wereng Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on August 11, 2026, when troops responded to a report of an attack on locals by armed militias in the community.

The troops swiftly intervened, forcing the attackers to withdraw from the area.

The troops subsequently combed the community and surrounding areas, where they discovered the lifeless body of a resident identified as Mr Bulus Mwagwong.

During the operation, the troops also rescued Mr Yakubu Dalyop, who had sustained gunshot wounds.

The injured victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Riyom, for medical attention, while the corpse of Mwagwong was deposited at the mortuary.

Following the incident, the troops commenced dominance patrols across the area to deter further attacks and ensure the continued safety of residents.

The security presence remains in place as efforts continue to prevent the attackers from regrouping and to maintain peace in the affected community.

Man Killed by Unknown Assailants in Plateau

A 45-year-old man, identified as Mr Mabur Simon, has been killed by unidentified persons in Maori Village, Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on August 12, 2026, when troops of Sector 5, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack and killing in the community.

The troops mobilised to the village and confirmed that the incident had occurred.

The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, while security personnel have commenced investigations to identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the attack.

The investigation is ongoing, as troops continue to maintain vigilance in the area to prevent further incidents and reassure residents of their safety.

Commercial Motorcyclist Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds in Plateau

A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Mr Gabriel Ishaya, has been found dead with gunshot wounds along the Gero road in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident was reported at about 7:00 a.m. on August 12, 2026, after troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed at Gyel responded to a report of a corpse and motorcycle discovered along the road.

Upon arrival at the location, the troops confirmed the discovery and found the deceased with gunshot wounds.

Eight empty cases of 7.62mm Special ammunition were also recovered at the scene.

The corpse was subsequently evacuated by Keystone B Division for further necessary action.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Ishaya was a commercial motorcyclist from Saminaka in Kaduna State and was resident in Tanchol, Gyel District.

The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, while further investigation is being conducted by Keystone B Division to determine the motive and identify those responsible.

Security agencies have continued efforts to establish the circumstances of the incident and prevent further attacks along the route.

Three Killed As Troops Repel Communal Attack between Fulani and Mwaghavul youths, Restore Calm in Mangu, Plateau

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have intervened in a violent clash between suspected Fulani and Mwaghavul youths at Jwak Maitumbi Community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 7:35 a.m. on August 12, 2026, following an earlier confrontation between youths from the two communities.

The troops responded to reports of sustained gunfire at the location and swiftly moved in to contain the situation.

According to the source, the troops deployed superior firepower, forcing both sides to withdraw from the area.

The troops subsequently conducted clearance operations, supported by drone surveillance, which confirmed that the area was clear of the combatants.

The clash resulted in the deaths of three persons, comprising one member of the local community and two Fulani herders. One other person from the local community also sustained injuries.

Following the intervention, normalcy was restored in the community, while troops continued to dominate the area to prevent further violence and deter any attempt by the parties to regroup.

Security forces have also maintained vigilance around the affected communities as efforts continue to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
