Troops Rescue Six Kidnap Victims, Recover Motorcycles After Repelling Terrorists in Sokoto

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered two motorcycles after repelling a terrorist attack on communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 11:25 a.m. on July 20 by troops of the 1 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Shagari and Sifawa.

The sources said the troops swiftly responded after receiving reports that suspected terrorists had attacked civilians in Wanke and Kaura villages.

On reaching the area, the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush.

In their haste to escape the superior firepower of the troops, the terrorists abandoned six kidnapped victims, who were immediately rescued by the security forces.

The troops also recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists during the operation.

The rescued victims were evacuated to safety for medical evaluation and debriefing, while troops commenced pursuit operations to track down the fleeing suspects.

Military sources said the operation is part of sustained offensive efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to deny terrorists freedom of action, rescue abducted civilians and restore security across communities in Sokoto State.

Troops Repel Terrorist Ambush in Kaduna, Recover AK-47 Rifle and Ammunition

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a terrorist ambush and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a fighting patrol in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on July 20, when troops of the 2 Nigerian Mobile Force (2 NMF), operating within Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, came under attack by suspected terrorists at Abrom Village.

The sources said the terrorists launched a surprise ambush on the patrol, but the troops responded with superior firepower, successfully fighting through the attack and forcing the assailants to retreat into the surrounding bush.

Following the encounter, the troops conducted exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 50 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

No casualty was reported among the troops during the operation.

Military sources said follow-up operations are ongoing to track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping, adding that sustained fighting patrols and offensive operations remain critical to denying criminal elements freedom of action across Kaduna State under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Farmer Killed in Clash Over Grazing in Plateau, 15 Cattle Recovered

A farmer has been killed in an alleged dispute over grazing in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, sparking tension in the affected community.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on July 20 in Larpia Community, where suspected herders allegedly attacked and killed the victim after he resisted attempts to graze cattle on his tomato farm.

Following a distress report, troops of Sector 8 of Operation Enduring Peace, deployed at Pushit, responded to the scene alongside operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

Upon arrival, the security team discovered the farmer’s lifeless body. Preliminary findings indicated that the altercation stemmed from a dispute over grazing on the deceased’s farmland.

The killing reportedly triggered a reprisal response from youths in the community, who mobilised and pursued the suspected herders, forcing them to abandon 15 cattle before fleeing the area.

The victim’s remains were evacuated to the General Hospital in Pankshin, while the abandoned cattle have been taken into the custody of the Larpia Police Division.

Security agencies have commenced investigations into the incident as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent further escalation of tensions in the area.
