Troops Rescue 13 Kidnapped Victims Along Akwa Ibom Waterways

Troops of 2 Brigade, in conjunction with maritime security operatives, have rescued 13 kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Security sources said that the rescue operation was carried out at about 12:09 a.m. on April 28 following sustained blockade and clearance operations along the waterways.

The sources said the victims were abducted on April 18 during a voyage along the Calabar–Oron axis before security forces intensified search and rescue efforts in the area.

According to the sources, the rescued victims were handed over to a joint team of the Nigeria Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following preliminary procedures and negotiations.

Among those rescued was Cpl. Akawu Emmanuel of the Air Traffic Services (ATS), Calabar.

They added that all the victims are currently receiving medical attention at a police hospital in Uyo.
