The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has conferred the traditional title of Zannah Burshema on the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo.

Speaking with the Palace Secretary on Wednesday, Alhaji Zannah Laisu said the traditional title given to the CMD carries heavy weight as it means ‘a reliable servant of the people.’

According to the palace, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo earned the title given both his academic rights and management style in the transformation of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital into one of the best across the west African states.

Recalled that the hospital, which started in 1983 barely with 300 capacity grew through diligence and dedication as the growth was also improved and transformed to the largest in Nigeria with 1200 bed capacity under Professor Ahmed Ahidjo as well as continuing to grow by building institutions for the care of patients that are among the best practices in the world.

“Professor Ahmed Ahidjo is making Borno and Nigeria proud. I am sure the people of Borno State and Nigeria will continue to rely on his professional and academic experience to ensure that all the dreams he hopes to achieve at the UMTH come to pass.” The Shehu said.

The monarch, while praying for lasting peace in Borno and other parts of the country, also advocated for peaceful co-existence, unity, and love among all Nigerians despite differences in regions, religions, ethnicity, and cultural and political affiliations.
