UMTH: When Burns Center Staff Celebrate Prof. Tahir Chubado

The recent appointment of Prof. Tahir Chubado as the Principal Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Jalingo (NOHJ) was greeted with joy by colleagues, friends, and relatives. In his honor, the staff of the Burns Centre of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where he was once the Head/Co-Ordinator, decided to celebrate with him by organizing a well-wish party for their former boss.

In her brief welcome remark during the occasion, Matron Aisha Ngohi said that Prof. Tahir is a renowned expert in plastic surgery, one of the best and of repute. As the pioneer Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Jalingo (NOHJ), he will make his mark: “Sir, we are proud of you… We know who you are and what you can do. We believe in your medical expertise. Ngohi added that the Management of UMTH is also proud of Prof. Chubado for his contributions in the field of medical knowledge as a teacher.

In his emotional speech, Dr. Kefas Mbaya described Prof. Tahir Chubado as a teacher, mentor, guardian, brother, and father for his leadership ability at the Burns Center, including his personal care for patients. “Prof.  Your leadership and expertise have changed the phase of the Burns Center at this great hospital. Prof., are you aware that patients of the center have come to identify with you for your out-of-pocket expenses in the course of their treatment? You are a nice gentleman.” Dr. Mbaya further stated that the center will sincerely miss him, believing that he will perform wonders at NOHJ.

Others who also spoke at the party spoke well of him as a kind medical gentleman with a large heart who loves the practice of medicine.

In his response and on behalf of his family, Prof. Tahir humbly thanks those who took their time to come and rejoice and expressed their happiness to wish him well during the occasion. “I am elated and grateful for all of you that came because of me. My special gratitude goes to Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, my CMD, and his Management and staff at UMTH for giving me the opportunity to work with them.”

He further said that he is most grateful to the staff of the Burns Center for their cordial working relationship and the tolerance and recognition they gave him.

He also made it clear that he will need the physical assistance and experience of some of them to achieve his set objectives at National Orthopaedic Hospital Jalingo.
