UN raises alarm over Boko Haram, ISWAP planned abduction of humanitarian workers

The United Nations (UN) has raised an alarm over Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) planned abduction of humanitarian workers in Banki of Borno state.

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), in an advisory information released, yesterday (Tuesday), in Maiduguri, disclosed: “We have a course to believe that the insurgents have perfected plans to abduct our humanitarian workers,” stating that Banki; is a border town with Cameroon.

However, the UNDSS statement said that no specific time was revealed for the planned abduction of staff.

Consequently, it said: “As a mitigation measure the UNDSS FSA has alerted all Heads of Agencies (HoAs) and Security Focal Persons (SFP) on the impending threat.

“It also advised them to ensure that staff vulnerability should be avoided,” noting that this will also reduce the level of exposure of any kind to the humanitarian workers in Banki.
