Unexploded Ordinance injured 4 Boys in Borno

Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) has injured for boys between the ages of six and ten years old in the town of Ngala in Borno state, northeast Nigeria.

NEWSng gathered on Tuesday that the boys namely: Uwa, Umar, Hussaini and Abdullahi were playing outside their home in Ngala, when they found a strange object, which turns out to be an unexploded ordinance.

“Unaware of what it was, the children were curious. Unfortunately, the strange object turned out to be an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). Before they knew it, it had detonated.

“The boys suffered severe injuries and were immediately transported by the ICRC helicopter to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri. The children received life-saving surgical care at the hospital, and they are at the recovery stage now.” An NGO official said  

He said, the use of explosive weapons in populated areas is very likely to have indiscriminate effects and pose a great risk to the general population.

“Children are at high risk of death, injury, mental trauma and disability when they live in proximity to Unexploded Ordnance.

“It is also important to remind children to avoid picking up suspicious and unknown objects and to inform adults who can call for assistance from community leaders and the authorities.

“In fact, children and adults alike should not move suspicious and unknown objects from where they find them, nor should they probe or play with them.” he added

Former Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan has commended the meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North East Zonal Stakeholders Forum held in Gombe state, today.

The former Senate President said it was an honour to stand alongside His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, the coordinating governor for the APC North East zone, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, and His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, of Borno State, chairman of the North East Governors Forum to discuss issues affecting the region.

According to Senator Lawan, the Forum commended Mr. President for giving the required leadership in the country and also taking courageous and bold reform decisions to revamp the economy and stabilize the polity.

“The Forum resolved to continue to support Mr. President in the implementation of his renewed agenda and equally commended the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, for his commitment to his responsibility and loyalty to Mr. President.” Senator Lawan said

He said while the trio (governors) are dynamic leaders passionate about their various states and the North East in general. “The presence of our National Chairman, His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR, further underscored the importance of this gathering. Alongside him were the National Deputy Chairmen (North and South), and other National Working Committee members, as well as numerous party stakeholders from across the North East, whose passion and contributions are the lifeblood of our political movement.

“We deliberated on critical issues affecting our region and nation and strategized on ways to consolidate our gains and address the needs of our people.” He added

Gombe: Jos DisCo condoles families of victims of electrocution

The Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company Plc, has commiserated with the families of those who died on Saturday from electrocution.

The commiseration is contained in a statement signed by Saratu Aliyu Dauda, the Ag. Head, Corporate Communications, JED and issued to journalists on Saturday.

The statement partly read: “the Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that occurred at approximately 00:45 hours today, affecting customers connected to the Tudun Wada Pantami Distribution Transformer 2 in the Riyel community, Gombe.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was caused by a high-tension line snapping and making contact with low-tension lines, leading to a voltage supply outside permissible limits.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in light of the palpable tension within the affected community, and will continue to provide accurate updates as more facts emerge.”

Dauda stated that the company was already carrying out a thorough evaluation to determine the root causes of the incident, and subsequently ensure appropriate corrective and preventive measures would be implemented to avoid a recurrence.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families impacted by this tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

“We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Traditional and Community Leaders in Riyel for their invaluable support in helping manage the aftermath of the incident.”

North East APC Forum Endorses Tinubu/Kashim Ticket for 2027

The North East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu/ Vice President Kashim Shettima ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was made on Sunday during the North East All Progressives Congress Consultative Meeting in Gombe, the Gombe State capital.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno, Mai-Mala Buni of Yobe, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe and other top APC officials in the northeast were among thousands of party members that attended the meeting.

The forum noted that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have transformed Nigeria in their short terms of leadership with their renewed hope agenda.

They call on all Nigerians to rally behind a ticket that promises unity, progress and hope for the country.

While delivering his speech, the governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, noted that in the last two years, the Tinubu/Shettima-led government has done a lot in the areas of health, education, youth and women empowerment, revenue generation, and improving the lives of citizens.

Other prominent personalities present at the meeting include the National Chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy National Chairman, Dr Ali Bukar Dalori, and other members of the APC.
