A member of the Community Watch and Vigilante group, Mika Ahmed, was killed in a gun attack on April 10, 2025, while his team was pursuing suspected bandits in Kankara Local Government Area (LGA).

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that at approximately 3:00 p.m., the vigilante group had been trailing armed bandits who were fleeing an ongoing military operation in Bakai Village, carrying a large herd of stolen cattle. The group, which had been collaborating with security forces in the area, encountered the bandits near Yan Dorowa Village.

In a swift and deadly ambush, the vigilantes were attacked, and Mika Ahmed, 30, was shot in the chest. He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Kankara for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.

Authorities have vowed to intensify their efforts to capture the fleeing bandits, who are suspected of being responsible for a string of recent attacks in the region. Military and police units continue to search for the perpetrators.
