Looking beyond the state projects especially in a place with critical issues like Borno is another testimony of governor Zulum’s contributions to lifting the burden of healthcare delivery services on a state mar by security situation in the last 13 years. The steps taken by the Professor Babagana Umara Zulum led administration to crossover in partnership with the UMTH is a big one. This however did not come without the move by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo in ensuring adequate support is giving to the hospital to cushion the numerous challenges of healthcare for people, who are building resilliance as a result of a decade insurgency’.
According to the Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, whenever the Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum visited the hospital, he always leave with a mark only purposeful leadership can give. Speaking on some of the answered prayers on a sermon he gave on Friday, following the visit of the governor to the hospital, the CMD noted several achievements reeling with facts on some of the contributions made to the hospital by the Borno state governor. Amongst the few he mentioned are the donation of a 1800 capacity hall, 20 million naira to support the hospital in cushioning the effect of covid-19 and the donation of a 24 housing unit as well as the 100 million naira support to the hospital.
Professor Ahidjo told his listeners at the board room at the UMTH that while taking the Borno state governor round during the visit, he could not at a point hold back tears for such concerns coming from a leader who is always around to wipe away tears coming from the challenges of day to day running of an Institution like the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

“You all know that the federal government has stop building accommodations for its staff in a setting like this. Ours is also of more challenging owing to the security situation we are facing in Borno state and indeed the northeast. One of the problem we are dealing with is this issues of accommodation. For us to get professionals to come and work for us, we need an accommodation for them. This has been a challenge in the hospital.
“Professionals with skills are hard to come by. In their case we have to go and look for them. However, when you approached such professionals the first first thing they will ask you is the issue of accommodation. This is because where they are, they were already accommodated. I believe with the donation of a 24 housing unit by His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum to the hospital via his duty of care, we are certain that this challenges is taking care of.
” We all know that in some states, the governors has made clear demacations between their own projects and that of the federal government. As such, federal institutions are often left to struggling where funding is lacking. In our case at the UMTH, the monthly IGR is barely about 50 million naira a month. What we spent on Diesel along to power our generators is something over 50 million naira. Our consumables for a month is also well over 50 million naira.
” The society where we are operating is a poor society. We are virtually operation as non profit or rather at lost without support coming from well meaning individuals. The Borno state governor has been magnanimous. He has always stand by us and what surprises me often is that whenever he comes around on visit, before we could put words across on some of our prayers for assistance, the governor is always ahead to ask us on where he may come in. Such leadership and care has gone a long way to describe the person of the Borno state governor as well as speaks on his leadership qualities.
“I always said that, my team and I are very lucky to have such Leaders around us. We shall continue to cherish the leadership of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum as well as that of our Board Chairman and his team. The Board Chairman is not from Borno state but he has always been supportive. He is always standing by us whenever we needed a shoulder to lean on in our continuous struggle to paddle and get the best in our attempts to achieve bigger dreams that we have set for ourselves as team of management at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.” The CMD said.
