Malam Garba Umar Tsunami, the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in Yobe state has assured the people that if elected he will ensure the employment and retraining of more teachers as well as build more primary and secondary schools across the state to give the people the basics of education with focus on the next generation.
Malam Garba Umar disclosed this in Potiskum while opening the party’s Bakata branch office at Dogo Nini ward.
He observed that, education in Yobe state has been backward with no significant changes since the coming of the current administration in the state and therefore, if voted into office he will ensure that the state has a better approach to fighting illiteracy through purposeful governance that meets the yearnings and aspiration of the people.
Malam Umar reveals plan by his party to constitute eleven man committee across each ward that will include Village heads and religious leaders, elders, youths and women leaders to fashion a better approach to government and promote all inclusive administration that will turn around the fortunes of the state.
According to him, the 11 man ward committee will be encouraged to forward observations under an open door policy that will enable them have unhindered access to government in order to present needs from their own assessment and the solution so that government can have better contact sessions with the people and knows where to come in to build a better society.
He said, Dogo Nini ward is the largest ward in Potiskum and in Yobe state in general, adding that Arkime primary school which has a total population of 19,000 pupils with only 29 teachers and in one classroom would be a priority of his government if elected.
He accused the Mai Mala government of being insensitive to the plight of the people saying that instead and f concentrating on the needs to secure the future of the state, the government employed over 5,000 S.A and paying them #45,000 every month while no attention was given to tackling the problem of education in the state.
“The government that don’t have money it can not be able to pay the #18,000 minimum wage salary in time, but it go ahead with employment of S.A, S.A, a man can spend 35 years in service government cannot pay him his pension and gratitude but they have money for jamboree.” Tsunami said.
He revealed that, if elected he will immediately neutralized all cloaks put in place by the current administration in Yobe that focus only on few individuals rather than the state.
“This government is deceiving the people of Yobe state for many, many years,” he said “Government House is not a place for selling fertilizer. I mean fertilizer should be taken direct to farmers. That is where if given the opportunity, the 11 man ward committee will be responsible for distribution of fertilizer, so that farmers will get it earlier and go to their farms. Fertilizer should always meet them at the farm and not the other way. if we form the government, we will ensure this is put to stop”.

“We would ensure that all the children of the poor gets education to become something in his future. We would try our best to see that the Western and Islamic education of our children is improve and we will sponsor our indigenes to go and look for education around the world so that we would stop hiring outside the state as that will reduce alot of burden on our people.” Malam Umar said.
While expressing sadness to what is happening in Yobe state, he observed that the lopesided educational pursuit between the children of the rich and the children of the poor is scary. “Look at this Tulip International College Mamudo all the children in the school are the sons of big, big men. Permanent Secretaries, Ambassadors, Commissioners Ministers, Directors and others you can’t get the children of poor in that school yet the government will tell you they are promoting education in the state. They are only promoting for themselves and neglecting the poor.
“If given the mandate, i will establish schools such as Tulip College. I will establish 17 in the state and from each local government I will ensure that the child of poor gets admission into the school.
He said the debt burden on the state is to the tune of over #100 Billion. Adding that what the state generates is between #3 to 4 billion.
“The government needs professionals on finance. I have experience on financial management and I am sure within a short time I will settle debts burden of the state if given the mandate.” Garba Umar said.

PDP Convention: Group backs Gov. Fintiri, Madagali
Ganye Chiefdom has passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa as Chairman, 2025 PDP National Convention and Alhaji Hamza Madagali, party Chairman Adamawa Chapter ahead of 2027 General Elections.
The Chiefdom comprises Ganye, Tango and Jada Local Government Areas including part of Mayo-Belwa.
Alhaji Kashim Jidda, leader of the delegation stated this when they paid a solidarity visit to the newly elected executive of the party in the state in Yola.
He said, Gov. Fintiri has laid a legacy in the state and assured their loyalty and support for the success of the party from the grassroots up to the national level.
Jidda appealed to Fintiri to reconstruct Ganye-Jada road to ease the suffering of people and to boost the economic activities in the area.
He also urged Fintiri to find a credible person who would succeed him after his two terms in office to sustain the success and progress of the state.
In his remarks, Madagali expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as one of the special visits to the party.
He commended the Chiefdom for supporting the party during the recent by-election in the area.
According to him, with that they have confidence in them and urged them to double their effort to ensure the success of the party to come 2027 General Elections.
“Going by the constitution of the country and that of the party nobody can stop PDP from winning the election in the forthcoming general election”, he said.

The National Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a critical stance against Vice President Kashim Shettima, alleging that he is shielding Aliko Dangote, a prominent industrialist, from the enforcement of labor laws. This assertion has sparked a heated debate regarding the role of government officials in upholding worker rights and the actual motivations behind the NLC’s criticisms. At first glance, the accusations may seem valid, but a deeper analysis reveals numerous inconsistencies and suggests that the NLC itself might be misdirecting its frustrations and VP Kashim Shettima is right.
I read the lines from a caption on Vanguard Newspapers with deep thoughts; it is imperative to understand the context in which these accusations have been made. The Nigerian labor landscape has faced significant challenges, particularly in the oil sector, where safety, remuneration, and working conditions have been contentious issues. The PENGASAN (Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria) is at the forefront of advocating for oil workers’ rights, and any perceived negligence by government officials, including top leadership, can understandably provoke outrage among its members. However, the NLC’s allegations appear to be more rooted in political maneuvering than substantive labor advocacy.
The NLC’s response to Shettima’s alleged protection of Dangote suggests a failure to appreciate the complexities of governance and the intersection between industry and labor rights. Shettima, as the Vice President, operates within a framework that requires balancing economic growth with labor rights. Dangote Industries represents a significant pillar of the Nigerian economy, contributing to job creation and fiscal revenue.
