Yobe @ 31: Governor Buni Felicitates with the people, Prayed for peace

Yobe state governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni on Saturday felicitates with the good people of Yobe state as the state turns 31 years since its creation in 1991.

A statement from Mamman Mohammed, DG Press and Media Affairs said governor Buni commended previous leaders and the people of the state for their individual and collective contributions towards placing the state on the path of peace and development.

He said each and every one of the past leaders made generous contributions to make Yobe state what it is today, while the people extended their support and cooperation to the building of the state. 

“As leaders of the state at various times, you have made tremendous contributions to the state that makes us all proud” he said.

Governor Buni also commended good people of Yobe state both at home and in the diaspora for their support and contributions to the various administrations in the state.

“I specially commend you all for your resilience, support and cooperation in building our dear state.

“Your strong resilience has spurred this administration towards speedy building and recovery of the state after the decade long Boko Haram insurgency” he said.

Governor Buni thanked Almighty Allah for the peace now enjoyed across the state, urging the people to continue praying for improved peace and security in the state.

The governor said the support extended to his administration enabled the government to rebuild schools, establish more health facilities, housing, road construction and completion of the cargo airport among others.

He assured that his administration will continue to execute people oriented projects and programmes to improve the lives of the people.

The Governor prayed for more years with improved peace, security, prosperity and speedy development of the state.

Nine Injured in Kwali Farmers–Herders Clash

Nine persons sustained machete injuries in a clash between Bassa farmers and Fulani herders in Gomoni Village, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the fight, which broke out on Aug. 9 at about 3:30 p.m., followed alleged destruction of melon and maize farms belonging to the Bassa community by cattle.

It was gathered that the Nigeria army troops
along with joint team of operatives, and vigilantes were deployed to the scene following a distress call.

Six Bassa and three Fulani victims with varying degrees of machete cuts were taken to Rhema Foundation Hospital, Kwali, for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the situation had been brought under control and normalcy restored, while investigation was ongoing.

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday attended the wedding fatiha of Aisha, daughter of Shehu Aliyu, an Executive Director with First Bank of Nigeria, and Muhammad Jalal, son of former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Talban Minna, at the National Mosque, Abuja.

The solemnisation, led by the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam, alongside other Imams, featured prayers for the couple’s blessings.

Vice President Shettima stood in for the bride, while Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu represented the groom, culminating in the presentation of the dowry and the formal tying of the marital knot.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki, Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, the Emir of Borgu, Niger State, Muhammad Sani Dantoro among many others.

Unidentified visitor dies suddenly at Niger Government House Lodge

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the sudden death of an unidentified man who collapsed and died at Government House Lodge, Minna. Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 2, 2025.

Sources said that the deceased had visited House No. 8, Government House Lodge, in an attempt to see Mr. Sammy, Chairman of Niger Foods. However, upon meeting his host’s absence, the man suddenly took ill.

Medical doctors were reportedly contacted from the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, for urgent attention. Unfortunately, by the time the doctor arrived, the man had already passed away.

Following the report, a team of police operatives from GRA Division visited the scene. The body was photographed and evacuated to the IBB Specialist Hospital Mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
