Yobe: Governor Buni lifts ban on use of motorcycle to fulfill campaign promises

Governor Mai Mala Buni Yobe on Monday lifted a ban on the use of motorcycles in the Northern and Southern part of the state.

This is following the return of normalcy in most parts of the areas with the return of civil authorities.

The governor made this known while on a visit to the palace of Emir of Nguru to sympathize with the people over the recent fire incidents that gulp properties worth millions of naira in the Nguru market.

Governor Mai Mala Buni said that the residents are now free to ride motorcycles for their day to day affairs.

“With this we are fulfilling part of our electioneering campaign to restore peace in the state and to allow use of motorcycles for the needs of the people.” He said.

The 10 Local Government areas allowed to use the motorcycles are: Fika, Nangere, Fune, Potiskum, Jakusko, Bade, Nguru, Karasuwa, Yusufari and machina.

However, the measure was based on 8 conditions that must be met by each and every one. And also the owners must operate between 6am to 6pm every day and should not be used for kabu-kabu (Achaba) Commercial. Only one rider will be allowed without any other person on the bike.

He said also there must be proper registration, license and documentation of all motorcycles and Cyclists in affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) respectively.

It could be recalled that the Yobe State  Government  banned the use of motorcycles at the height of Boko Haram insurgency in the last 12 years.
