Yobe State University: Prof. Seeks collaboration with Almajiri commission to fight illiteracy

Professor Mala Daura, Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, has said that the center for research and Qur’anic studies of the university would collaborate with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education to address issues around illiteracy, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship, as well as prevention of youth poverty, delinquency, and destitution in the Northeast and Yobe State in particular.

The Vice Chancellor started this when the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, Dr. Mohammad Sani Idris, paid him a courtesy call at the council chambers of the university.

Professor Daura, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor central administration, Dr. Bukar Jamri, said the university is grateful that the commission found it worthy of a collaboration that would lead to the accomplishment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Education for Renewed Hope agenda.

He revealed that the collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children will help in the integration of Quranic and Tsangaya education.

“The university has other specialized centers that can strategically partner with the commission. They include the Center for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development and the Center for Research and Capacity Development on Humanitarian Studies,” he said.

Professor Daura further announced the appointment of the Executive Secretary as a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Research in Qur’anic Studies as well as honored him with the award of servant of Qur’anic education in Northeast Nigeria.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children, Dr. Mohammad Sani Idris, said they were at the university to collaborate and to share the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on education for a renewed hope agenda.

He revealed that the commission is passionate about revitalizing Tsangaya education in the North, so they chose the center for research in Qur’anic studies of Yobe State University for collaboration.

The Executive Secretary also disclosed that the commission has chosen Yobe State University as one of the centers in Nigeria that will draw a roadmap for the 36 states in the federation in conjunction with the office of the National Security Adviser.

On the entourage of the Executive Secretary were the Chairman of the of the House Committee on Alternative Education, Arc Ibrahim Mustapha, and the former Minister of State for Education, Dr. Aisha Jibril Dukku, among others.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Acedemic Service), Dr. Mohammed Musa Lawan; the University Registrar, Dr. Kalli Yusuf Alkali Gazali; and the Director of the Center for Research in Qur’anic Studies, Dr. Adam Mohammed Mustapha.
