YOUNG ANNA DANIEL: Aspiring to be an Author

By: Balami Lazarus

As I write this piece, my mind flash-back to the days when I was a Volunteer Teacher (VT); teaching Literature- in- English in Government Secondary School Tudun Wada Jos, some years back under the able principalship of Mrs. Laraba Emmanuel Mangni a nice, kind, intelligent and hardworking woman.

Mrs. Mangni is a woman who will go out of her way to encourage and promote talent and creativity whenever the opportunity presents itself. This I had seen and equally involved in such when I was with her. I have learned this from her. Ma, I doff my hat for you.

When Mr. Ombugadu Daniel approached and told me that his daughter young Miss. Anna is writing a short story novel I quickly keyed into Anna’s project and to see things for myseIf, as an encouragement I decided to have a chat with the young aspiring author, future Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) member.

YOUNG ANNA DANIEL: Aspiring to be an Author

Anna is 11 years old, a JSS 2 student of Rock Foundation Nursery/ Primary School Kings Ward Estate New Nyanya Karu Nasarawa State. In the course of my chat with her, she told me that she was inspired to write the short story book having read other writer’s works (books) “other books have inspired me so much” she said smiling. The young novelist further has this to say “reading and writing is improving my understanding and the use of English.

Miss. Daniel is looking forward to becoming a published author very soon. She informed me that her work is original, “my work will be ready for public presentation in a few months from now,” she said happily.     “Kudu The Good Girl” is the title of the short story novel. Going through the manuscript, I could not believe my eyes; it has over 5 chapters, well written with simple sentences, full of illustrations of all the characters and images. I was really impressed by the work of this young up- coming author.

Mr. Daniel Ombugabu said that “Anna is being encouraged by her parents. I will make sure she gets published”. Mrs. Lami her mother said “I give her room to do her writings, I am happy for my daughter”.     Finally, Anna told me that she would like to be a medical doctor. Here are: Reading, Cooking, Travelling and Listening to stories.
