Police personnel in Zamfara State have successfully repelled an armed bandits’ ambush along the Gusau–Talata Mafara road, though one officer sustained injuries in the attack.
According to sources, on Feb. 2, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., a police team led by DSP Ma’aji Ndagunu was returning from Gusau after transferring a case to the State CID when they ran into bandits at Kwanar Kirya village.
The team reportedly returned fire, forcing the assailants to retreat into the nearby bush, possibly sustaining gunshot injuries.
However, one officer, Insp. Jamilu Abdullahi, was hit on the right thigh and was promptly taken to the General Hospital Talata Mafara for medical attention.
Reinforcements from the division and Talata Mafara Area Command were mobilized to the scene while security forces are combing the general area.
