ZULUM: Award from A Church to A Governor
ZULUM: Award from A Church to A Governor

For courage and purposeful leadership. Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has remained an iroko when speaking about governance in Nigeria today. This award has reminded me of many courageous fronts the governor fought in the last three years of his administration of Borno state. It also brought in full view lessons leadership should learn about a style from this astute personality in Zulum.
Needless to count his achievements about courage and leadership, they are many and found on the pages of time. The Borno state governor has been a constant reminder for good governance across the North, East, West and South of this great country called Nigeria. That the Anglican Church picked him out means more and beyond the borders of Borno or the shores of this country.
I know very little about the Anglican Church yet I know a lot as a former Media Strategist to His Eminence, the late Arch-Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese, Emmanuel Kana Mana. Getting an award like this from a Church expresses a lot about the man or woman to which the award was given. Coming from the Anglican Church in the witness of over 600 Clergies of which Bishops were in attendance means that the Borno state governor has been tested and proven by fire both in human observation and spiritual revaluation.

I know the Anglican Church is bigger than Nigeria in population and resources. So, there is nothing like seeking a favor from a governor. More so, the award was coming from Port Harcourt where the country’s riches are in abundance.
Zulum indeed has become a testament in the history of Nigeria. He was picked out by the Niger Republic and we’ll celebrate. Many institutions and organizations in-country also come to him with such appreciation and now from the Anglican Church which represents not only Nigeria or Africa but the Anglican world from mother Britain.
Indeed, the Borno state governor has made a mark and continued to impress not only the common man in Borno state or an Orobo man from the southern part of this country but organizations and countries in his quest to serve humanity. For me, Zulum is a man of the year since he took leadership in 2019. Perhaps I should also commend the former governor of Borno state, Senator Kashim Shettima for making the right choice for Borno.

In his dreams and beliefs, Borno shall rise again. Kashim Shettima maintained a focus of pulling Borno state out of the woods. He started work towards achieving that dream of returning the lost glory of the state and entrusted to him a brother to continue with the vision.
The outcomes are the results and commendations the state is enjoying today. At least, a Borno man will not be ashamed to call himself as such coming from a decade of devastation. It is a fact that a Borno man is stigmatized and called names in places where he fled to seek refuge on the account of trying to save his own life from marauding killers and yet not trusted by such society where he seeks refuge.
With such viral recognition. I hope the good work will continue as we look out for the next award. Perhaps this may come from the Vatican City to complete and to catapult Borno state into another realm of blessedness for laughter in our stories of pains and sorrows over those we still remember as martyrdom for their courageous stand in the face of death.
