Zulum commends management of BOSU for taking the institution to the next level

By: Bodunrin kayode

Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum has commended the management of Borno State University led by Prof. Umar Sandabe, for taking the University to the next level .pp

The Governor who is the visitor to the University, gave the commendation, when the top management of the institution paid him Sallah Homage at the Government House recently.

Zulum observed that, though they may have faced challenges and made mistakes here and there, as human beings, one can never be perfect which is why he is grateful to them for a job well done.

On the admission and recruitment of personnel, Zulum emphasized that, it must conform with the purpose for which the institution was established which is primarily to provide our teaming youth with tertiary education.

He stressed that, though he is not against admitting students from other parts of the country, priority, must always be given to students of Borno state extraction.

On staff recruitment, Governor Zulum observed that, most of the lecturers are borrowed from University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) either on sabbatical or visiting, a situation that does not auger too well with the academic staff development of the young University in the long term.

He therefore directed the VC to see him, so as to re-strategize on the long and short term needs of human capital development.

Zulum restated his commitment and determination to develop the University at all costs into a contemporary institution ready to serve the needs of the state.

He added that, the BOSU Teaching Hospital being constructed by the State Government will be completed this year for the faculty of health sciences.

Earlier,Vice Chancellor BOSU, Professor Umar Sandabe, said, they were at the Government House to felicitate with him for successful completion of the Ramadan Fast and Eid el Fitr prayer and also to formally inform him that his tenure ends this month.

Israeli envoy expresses sympathy to innocent victims of war with Hamas

By: Michael Mike

Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman has expressed sympathy for the innocent souls that died in the war with Hamas.

Freeman expressed his sympathy on Sunday on the occasion commemorating the 2nd year memorial of the war with Hamas.

He said:”Friends, as we remember the victims of October 7, we also express sympathy for the innocent Palestinians who have lost their lives in this war—a war Israel never wanted, a war Israel never started – a war that was forced upon us.

“We grieve for every innocent soul, because we value life—all life.”

The envoy insisted that they are not foreigners and neither did they colonise the land.

He said: “We are not foreigners in Israel, we did not colonize the land of Israel; we returned to it. Jews have lived in Jerusalem, Tiberias, Hebron, Tsfat and every part of our land for over 3,000 years. Through exile and dispersion, we prayed toward Jerusalem, and we remembered Jerusalem at every wedding, every festival, and at every dinner table.

“We revived our language, planted forests, gathered exiles, welcomed survivors, and built a modern technology-based economy in a nation reborn.

“Israel was not created because of the Holocaust. It was created in spite of it.”

He stressed that: “Israel is not built on pity. Israel is built on courage, on faith, on history.

“And today, “Never Again” is not just a slogan. It is the Iron Dome that protects children in Sderot. It is the Israeli pilot in the sky. It is the 18-year-old girl in olive uniform, standing guard so that our children can sleep at night.”

He also expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump of the United States “for his steadfast support, his courage in recognizing truths others ignored, and his unique efforts in bringing our hostages home and helping to finally end this war.”

Highlights of the evening were virtual testimonies of survival of the October 7 2023 attack.

South East Group Distances Self from Sowore’s Free Nnamdi Kanu Protest

By: Michael Mike

A South East group, Task force and Committee for Free Nnamdi Kanu, has distanced itself from the FreeNnamdiKanuNow Planned Protest by Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara reporters and presidential candidate of AA in the last general election.

Sowore has called Nigerians out to protest the continued detention of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government. The protest is scheduled across the country on Monday, October 20.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the Convener and Executive Secretary, Task force and Committee for Free Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB, Barr. Emejulu Okpalaukwu Okpalaezeukwu, said no group from the Southeastern region is involved in the Sowore’s planned protest.

He said at no point did they ever contemplate staging any kind of protest, especially when political moves were already going on for the release of Kanu.

He said besides, traditional rulers from the region are on top of the issue.

Okpalaezeukwu also said he suspected an ulterior motive for the protest, especially as it is coming at a point where traditional rulers have gone far in the attempt to release Nnamdi Kanu.

He also alleged that there are people benefiting from the continued incarceration of Kanu and would not want him released.

He insisted that they are not against anybody protesting but doubted if it will serve any good purpose at this point in time as efforts are high to get Kanu released, stating that they are against any move that can jeopardise the ongoing efforts.

He called on “Ndi Igbo, particularly igbo traders, youth and peace loving Nigerians to stay away from Sowore’s October 20 2025 protest.” He said: “We have concluded spiritual and political actions to peacefully secure freedom and release of Nnamdi Kanu for peace, security, understanding, unity, development and progress of mankind.”

He said our further findings indicate that Nnamdi Kanu being “symbol of Igbo resistance against marginalization is” always attract multi dimensional support and contributions of Ndi Igbo and good people Worldwide, towards his freedom and release.”

He however said this protest does not have the blessing of Ndi Igbo and all the traditional leaders from the South East.

He said: “In view of the above, let all traders, youth, students and civil servants go about their normal businesses.

“If protests must take place, allow the politicians, those against and those for , do the protest PEACEFULLY.”

He therefore charged the security agencies to do their work so as to ensure the protest is not hijacked.
