Zulum disburses N255m, food to CJTF, hunters

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disbursed N255,650,000 and 5,513 bags of 50kg rice to members of the Civilian JTF and local vigilante fighting Boko Haram insurgents alongside the security forces.

Zulum performed the distribution of the foodstuffs at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri, on Wednesday.

About 5,523 CJTF and hunters operating within Maiduguri and Jere, comprising those on government payroll and the volunteers received the governor’s package.

Each of the 4,513 that receives monthly allowances from the government were given a bag of 50kg rice and N50,000 cash while 1,000 volunteers each got a bag of 50kg rice and N30,000 cash.

Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the volunteers for the sacrifices they have been making to ensure that peace is restored to the state.

“I want to appreciate your efforts in complementing the military and other security forces to restore peace in the state. I assure you that your welfare is a top priority for me,” Zulum said.

The occasion was witnessed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, the Head of Service, Barrister Mallam Fannami, and the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.

Troops, NDLEA arrest suspected drug peddler in Yobe raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and local vigilante groups have arrested a suspected drug peddler during a raid operation in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 9:00 p.m. on March 16 in the Takari general area, based on credible intelligence on illicit drug activities.

According to the sources, troops of the 159 Battalion, alongside NDLEA operatives and vigilante members deployed in Gashua, conducted the coordinated raid which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Items recovered during the operation include seven wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and other illicit substances.

“The suspect was apprehended during the raid, while the recovered exhibits have been secured for further investigation,” the source said.

He added that the suspect and the seized drugs had been handed over to the NDLEA for further action in line with existing laws.

Troops arrest eight illegal miners, dismantle site in Abuja

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested eight suspected illegal miners and dismantled an unauthorised mining site in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday following credible intelligence on illegal mining activities around the Chaza–Izom axis in Bamburu village, Suleja area.

According to the sources, troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade conducted a patrol to the location, leading to the arrest of the suspects at the site.

Items recovered during the operation include one motorcycle, one 25-litre jerrycan of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), one 25-litre jerrycan of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), four water pump machines and one gas cylinder.

“The illegal mining site was subsequently destroyed to prevent further exploitation, while the suspects and recovered items are in troops’ custody for further necessary action,” the source said.

Troops arrest two suspected terrorists, recover arms in Plateau

Troops under Operation Safe Haven have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau.

Security sources said the suspects were apprehended at about 4:21 p.m. on Wednesday by Sector 4 troops of Operation Peace Enforcement (OPEP) at Gashish, along Kafu Abu Road.

According to the sources, the arrest was based on credible intelligence, prompting troops to act swiftly and intercept the suspects.

The sources added that following the arrest, troops conducted a search of the suspects’ residence at Kadok village, leading to the recovery of two dane guns, one locally fabricated pistol, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one live cartridge.

“The suspects are currently in custody, while the recovered weapons and ammunition have been secured for further investigation,” the source said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to sustain ongoing operations aimed at curbing criminal activities and restoring lasting peace in Plateau and its environs.
