Zulum inspects 500 tricycles, 100 Toyota Car for transportation use within Maiduguri

Borno Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum has on Sunday evening visited the state mechanical workshop to inspect the 500 Keke Napep he promised to supply to ease transportation services within the metropolis. 

Gov. Zulum had last year, in Maiduguri hosted operators of ‘Keke NAPEP’ during which he directed the procurement of 500 tricycles and 100 Toyota cars (Corolla LE) to be delivered to the operators at subsidized allocations.  

The Governor directed the state’s ministry of transport to liaise with various unions of the tricycle operators to agree on suitable and acceptable modalities for the allocation for 2,200 Keke NAPEP to operators in order to cushion the economic hardship on citizens..

Also at the state mechanical workshop the Governor addressed issues of Lorries damaging roads, where about 20 heavy carreer trucks were impounded for overloading. 

The Governor also made it clear that the law to that effect will take its course.

The Governor further added that, the VIO and the Borno state Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA) will continue to impound overloaded heavy trucks as it is against the law.

The Governor announced the prohibition on entry of overloaded heavy trucks into the city of Maiduguri.  

He further said, over loading of heavy trucks is prohibited for safety of road maintenance, adding that any trucks caught with overloaded goods shall equally be prosecuted
