Zulum Rolls Out 20 Electric Buses to Cushion Petrol Price Hike

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has directed the immediate deployment of 20 luxury electric buses for public use as part of measures to cushion the impact of the recent petrol price hike on residents.
The buses, which were inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 20th December, 2025, alongside 3,000 electric bicycles, 500 electric tricycles, and 100 electric vehicles aimed at improving transportation services across the state.
The rollout of the buses, which commenced on Friday, 3rd April, features a fleet of 17 buses with 49 seating capacity, two 37-seaters, and one 28-seater. They are currently being deployed across major routes within Maiduguri metropolis and its environs to ease the burden of rising transport costs on commuters.
The Fully air-conditioned and energy-efficient vehicles can cover over 400 kilometres on a single charge. This initiative complements the existing fleet of buses and salon cars earlier procured by the Zulum administration to enhance urban mobility.
To ensure seamless operations, the governor has also established the largest electric vehicle charging terminal in the country, with the capacity to charge up to 50 vehicles at a time.
To further protect residents from the ripple effects of the global energy crisis, Governor Zulum directed Borno Express Transport Service to maintain a subsidised fare of N50 per drop.
The intervention has already begun to yield positive results, with noticeable reductions in congestion and improved access to affordable transportation for students, civil servants, traders, and other residents.
Commuters have since commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
“This transport initiative is indeed commendable. We are not feeling the impact of the rising transportation costs, as fares remain at N50 per drop. We thank Governor Zulum for the gesture”.
The initiative forms part of Governor Zulum’s effort to promote green energy, modernise transportation system and provide relief to the vulnerable.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled terrorist activity along the Kwanar Isa–Shinkafi road in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Sept. 29, when troops of 26 Battalion, Forward Operating Base Isa, responded to reports of terrorist activity along the road.
The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to withdraw from the area.
Following the encounter, the troops maintained patrols and dominated the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and threatening motorists and communities along the route.
Security operations remain ongoing in the area as troops continue efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and strengthen security across the axis.

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have repelled a suspected terrorist attack on Gwamagira settlement in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering rustled cattle abandoned by the attackers.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, when troops of 114 Battalion (Rangers) at Andami responded to reports of suspected terrorists riding motorcycles attacking the community.
The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat and abandon the rustled cattle.
However, the troops discovered that the terrorists had killed one civilian and abducted three others during the attack.
The recovered cattle were subsequently returned to their owners, while troops launched efforts to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
Security operations are ongoing in the area as troops continue to search for the victims and pursue the fleeing attackers.

Troops rescue NYSC members after abduction in Imo

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued some prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members after they were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Onitsha–Owerri road in Imo State.
The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 at Umonuwa village in Mbaise Local Government Area, when troops of 34 Artillery Brigade responded to a reported kidnap incident involving two commercial buses.
Preliminary information indicated that the suspected kidnappers abducted 30 prospective corps members travelling in the two buses, while troops subsequently rescued some of the victims.
The troops, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police and Department of State Services, have launched a coordinated operation to track the perpetrators and rescue the remaining victims.
The rescued prospective corps members were handed over to the DSS for debriefing and further assistance.
Security agencies are continuing operations in the area, with further details expected as the operation progresses.
