2022 Budget: Committee on Finance to speed up passage of bill in Yobe

The Chairman House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Chiroma A. Buba has assured that all House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation with relevant House Committees will work round the clock to ensure a thorough scrutiny for speedy passage of the bill to achieve the state budget policy statements set out in the 2022 fiscal year.
Hon. Chiroma A. Buba disclosed this at the official flag off of 2022 Fiscal Year Budget Defense/ Public Hearing at Assembly Complex, Damaturu.
He said the committee on Finance and Appropriation is vested with the responsibility of being the mother committee while all other committees serve as sub – committee in the legislation process of Finance and Appropriation Bills as enshrined in House Standing Order Rule 90 (5).
“It could be recalled that His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni presented the 2022 Finance and Appropriation Bills on 11th November 2021 which serves as first reading then the second reading and letter committed to the committee for scrutiny.” He said.

According to Buba, Yobe state is known for its reforms in transparency and accountability in public financial management, adding that this is an important event in which all stakeholders are engaged as an integral part of the appropriation process.
“These with a view to achieve a citizens driven budget in line with International best practices, the constitution and other PFM related Laws and regulations in the state.
He noted that reforms and public finance management are going on in the state especially in the budget process such as presentation of Economic and Fiscal Update – Fiscal Strategy Paper- Budget Policy Statement (EFU – FSP – BPS) to the house citizens budget dialogue in three Senatorial zones of state.
The Governor presented Appropriation Bill of #164, 054, 384, 000 which was tagged “Budget of Continuity, Empowerment and Accelerated Development” made of total recurrent expenditure of #91,425,743,000 and capital expenditure of #72,628,641,000 for the services of the state during the 2021 fiscal year.
He appealed to all stakeholders to contribute their own quota by giving meaningful suggestions and providing valuable inputs to form part of the bills and express his profound gratitude to all stakeholders who grace this occasion and wish all MDAs fruitful deliberations.
