2022 Children’s Day: NGO distributes clothes to children at National Hospital

2022 Children’s Day: NGO distributes clothes to children at National Hospital
An NGO, Project One, has distributed clothing to babies and children between the ages of one day and nine months at the National Hospital, Abuja to commemorate the 2022 Children’s Day.
Mrs Bisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, the Founder, said on Friday that the clothing of babies and their mothers with the branded clothes was its contribution to reawakening national consciousness.
Busari-Akinnadeju said that it was also part of the NGOs annual #IAMANIGERIAN conference programme to clothe children in hospitals and at Internally Displaced Person camps.
“We are here today at the National Hospital to clothe Nigerian babies as part of our culture during the #IAMANIGERIAN conference.
“On Thursday, we had the first of the conferences appreciating those who contributed in one way or the other to the development of this country.
“On Friday, we are at the wards, we believe we have to start from the cradle; we have to instil the right leadership values and fly the national identity,’’ she said.
Busari-Akinnadeju added that the branded items displaying Nigeria’s heroes’ past and the Nigerian colours would serve as reminders about Nigeria to organisations, the children and their parents whenever they wore them.
She explained that wearing the clothes on the children would help to grow their consciousness that they are Nigerians, and Nigeria cares for them, loves them and is looking out for them.
Mrs Ebele Odanwu, one of the parents who received some of the clothing, appreciated the group’s initiative to extend love and care to babies and their parents.
“I love what Project One is doing; sharing packages to children, their mothers or their parents, telling them that they are Nigerians.
“When they grow, they’d realise that they are from Nigeria and they would be proud of Nigeria,’’ she said.
Odanwu urged other NGOs and governments at all levels to extend succour to the average Nigerian to reassure them of a better Nigeria.
Dr Otuneye Tolulope, Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the National Hospital, lauded the NGO and encouraged it to sustain its corporate social responsibility to Nigerians.
“It is a laudable initiative and it is something that should be encouraged,’’ he said.
Mrs Eneji Maureen, Assistant Director, Nursing Services, also commended the humanitarian service rendered by the NGO to the vulnerable.
She encouraged parents of the babies to always remind their children, both young and old, that Nigeria is blessed.
“We want them to grow up to know that Nigeria is a blessed country and we would all one day have a good way forward,’’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed included branded baby overall jackets, baby socks, baby caps, and other branded made-in-Nigeria baby clothing.
