2023: Why APC Vice Presidential Candidate Excited Over Kano Rally
By: James Bwala
The crowd at the Sani Abatcha stadium in Kano State on Wednesday witnessed more evidence that the All-Progressive Congress, APC, will win the general elections in February 2023. Kashim Shettima, the vice-presidential candidate, was moved by the welcome in Kano when the ruling party held a rally for its election campaign.
It is abundantly clear from various videos and images that are trending on the internet and throughout social media how the ruling party will be received over the next few weeks. The tweet from President Muhammadu’s media aide Bashir Ahmad, who cited the claim made by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running partner, senator Kashim Shettima, claiming he had never witnessed a political gathering like the Kano APC event, was met with approvals from supporters and political analysts.

Since the rally today, much has been said on Senator Kashim Shettima’s statement made after the event in response to the enormous turnout at their campaign rally in Kano. “He has never witnessed a political gathering like the Kano APC presidential campaign rally,” Shettima remarked. This does undoubtedly speak to overcoming the Kwankwasiya syndrome in the state as a result of political experts’ fantasies before the rally that disproved earlier discussions in political corners and argument that sells the creative Kwankwasiya acceptability.
Twitter users responded to Kashim Shettima’s comment, with some confirming that it is true that there is a sizable crowd. Okolie Sunday stated that his final message is to “Vote for Tinubu and quit misleading yourselves” based on what he saw and what Shettima said. He claims that the Kano rally, which is held in the hometown of one of the racers, is the beginning of the end, as loud voices mute all fantasies and stamp on the record history.

The Sani Abacha Stadium, the location of the big rally, was accessible only by closed roads from the Kano State House. In support of Tinubu and Kashim Shettima’s bid for the presidency, thousands of people took to the streets.
The APC’s presidential candidate and his running mate Kashim Shettima, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and others were seen in a raised campaign truck trying to move from the State House to the Stadium as they waved to the tumultuous crowd as his name was being chanted. There were singers and drummers everywhere.

The APC vice presidential candidate, who spoke in Hausa before a gathering of supporters, also said that the party’s administration will finish the gas pipeline project and other significant projects in Kano. Both candidates made campaign promises they intended to keep.

In his speech, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje claimed that Kano was Nigeria’s most democratic state. This explains why Party supporters from the state’s 44 local government areas descended on the state headquarters as early as 6am before the road show, which began at the Kano state government house at 12 p.m. local time and ended at the Sani Abacha stadium, the location of the Kano state Presidential campaign rally.
Hours were spent traveling in the motorcade; a trip of 4 kilometers, which would normally take less than 10 minutes, took close to 3 hours. Many Party supporters wore broom insigma while dressed in the party’s red, blue, green, and white colors. A variety of colored caps bearing the Tinubu logo were won. As security agencies and the Kano state traffic agency KAROTA worked to reroute traffic to allow for campaigners’ unfettered movement and the continuation of livelihoods, the state experienced major terrible traffic jams.

Along with APC Vice Presidential Candidate Senator Kashim Shettima, party Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and DG Tinubu Campaign Council Solomon Lalong, the governor of plateau state, Tinubu arrived at the Abacha stadium in a double-decker open-air luxury bus while wearing the party’s traditional gwon (Agbada) and donning a brown cap with the insigma of a figure 8 turned sideways to signify “#RenewedHope”.
Kano is taken! Tinubu who was urged to speak from the standing Luxry Bus because of the cheering crowd that prevented him from alighting refused to do so and struggled his way through the crowd to the erected Podium to deliver his speech.” This speaks more on why Kano was strategically important for APC and explains Kashim Shettima’s position when he said he never saw such a crowd at political gatherings.

PRESS STATEMENT
END NEEDLESS SPECULATIONS ON APC 2027 PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE
Our attention has been drawn to growing media frenzy about possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu under the platform of our great Party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
While these stories have been mostly subtle, they recently assumed a new dimension when names of specific individuals were touted as possible replacement for Vice President Shettima.
Our Party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.
We urge media organizations to refrain from lending their platforms to rumour-peddlers and mischievous “news sources” of questionable provenance whose only intention is to promote discord and confusion in the polity.
Under our laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force. At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms that are now steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and uplifting the living conditions of our people.
We call on our ministers, senior government and Party officials to avoid, wittingly or unwittingly, stoking needless speculations, and to focus on their primary duty of diligent service to government and our Party, and bolster the success and achievements of President Tinubu, our inimitable and visionary leader.

The question of leadership in Nigeria cannot be divorced from the country’s ongoing security challenges. The insurgency in the Northeast, where Shettima served as governor during the peak of Boko Haram’s activities, has transformed him into a figure of resilience and determination. His tenure was marked by commendable efforts to tackle insecurity and rehabilitate communities torn apart by conflict. Shettima’s firsthand experience with these issues equips him with insights that are crucial for shaping Nigeria’s security policies as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Kashim Shettima’s commitment to educational reform and economic revitalization further enhances his value within the administration. His initiatives have always transcended mere governance; they reflect a deep-seated belief in the power of education as a catalyst for social change. It is also important to consider the implications of political continuity and stability in Nigeria’s ever-evolving political framework. Critics may argue that the political environment warrants periodic changes in leadership to inject fresh ideas. While innovation is essential for progress, it is equally critical to recognize that substantial transformation requires consistency in vision and execution. Shettima embodies both qualities, rendering him an irreplaceable figure as Nigeria journeys towards revitalization. His adept understanding of the challenges at hand, coupled with a commitment to innovative solutions, positions him as an indispensable asset within the Tinubu administration.
The global context surrounding Nigeria adds an additional layer of complexity to domestic governance. With international markets fluctuating and geopolitical tensions rising, having a seasoned leader like Shettima by Tinubu’s side is invaluable. His experience in navigating international partnerships and fostering economic collaborations will be instrumental in positioning Nigeria favorably on the world stage. As the duo embraces the challenges of the future, their combined strengths will offer Nigeria the resilience needed to thrive amidst uncertainty.
