2027: Is Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan the right choice for Borno?

By: Dr. James Bwala

A supporter of the Borno Central senator commented on the Borno social media platform, and I quote: “In the evolving landscape of Nigerian politics, where the intersection of experience, vision, and pragmatic governance determines success, Barr. Kaka Shehu Lawan stands out as a pivotal figure in the future of Borno State come 2027.” As the current senator representing Borno Central in the National Assembly, Lawan has demonstrated exceptional understanding and navigation of the intricate political environment within the state. His advocacy for infrastructure and education reforms, coupled with his established connections to federal agencies, may have positioned him as an ideal candidate for leadership, particularly in the context of a potential political transition with Governor Zulum.

Senator Lawan’s track record has delineated clear policy propositions aimed at revitalizing the state’s dilapidated infrastructure through partnerships with federal agencies. By promoting initiatives for better roads, healthcare facilities, and schools, Lawan recognizes that foundational improvements are necessary for fostering economic growth and stability in Borno if he takes a position of leadership in the state. In addition to infrastructure, Lawan’s emphasis on education reform is imperative for empowering future generations. Education is a transformative tool that can uplift communities from cycles of poverty and conflict. As senator, he advocated for improved access to quality education. Lawan is not merely focusing on immediate gains but is investing in the long-term sustainability of Borno State. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, Lawan aims to cultivate a new wave of leadership capable of tackling the complexities of modern governance.

Indeed, Senator Lawan’s political acumen is bolstered by his extensive network within federal agencies. These relationships are crucial, especially in a state like Borno, where external support and funding are necessary to implement large-scale developmental projects. Kaka Lawan’s established connections can expedite processes that would otherwise be bogged down by bureaucratic red tape. From securing grants to initiating collaborative projects, his access to key decision-makers in federal institutions could provide Borno State with the resources it desperately needs to recover and thrive post-conflict.

A significant aspect that should be considered is the conjectured political shift involving Governor Babagana Zulum and Barr. Kaka Shehu Lawan. Political analysts suggest that a swap between these two leaders might be on the horizon, with Zulum potentially moving to the Senate. Such a transition could create a unique leadership dynamic that might benefit Borno State significantly. Zulum has garnered a reputation for his pragmatic governance and efforts to restore peace and stability in Borno. However, his transition to the Senate might allow for a fresh perspective and new energy in the executive branch, where Lawan, with his wealth of experience, can seamlessly step in to continue Zulum’s legacy while implementing his vision for the future.

The notion of leadership is often viewed through the lens of charisma and public appeal; however, effective governance demands more than just popularity. It requires a profound understanding of the intricacies of local and national policies. Lawan’s rapid acclimatization to the political nuances of Borno is indicative of his capability to lead not only through challenges but also during periods of transformation. His experience has refined his strategic thinking and decision-making abilities, making him a valuable asset in any potential leadership role.

The political landscape is laden with uncertainties, and it is crucial for Borno State to have a leader who is not only adaptable but also visionary. Kaka Shehu’s foresight regarding the future of Borno’s political structure demonstrates his ability to plan and prepare for what lies ahead. In a context where change is inevitable, a leader who possesses both the wisdom of experience and the vigor of innovation will be instrumental in navigating the state toward prosperity.

Critically, Lawan’s candidacy is not merely about his individual capabilities; rather, it is emblematic of a broader movement towards progressive governance in Borno. His approach resonates with a generation that seeks accountability, transparency, and a robust developmental agenda. By championing inclusive governance practices, he fosters a sense of community involvement and ownership, encouraging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process. Empathy and engagement with constituents are vital, and Lawan’s commitment to this principle places him in a favorable position to build a cohesive society.

However, for Lawan to truly excel, he must concentrate on addressing the interconnected issues that plague Borno State. Security remains a paramount concern; although much of the state has witnessed a decline in violence, the remnants of insurgency have left scars that require healing. Strengthening ties with security agencies and adopting a comprehensive approach that involves community participation in local governance could enhance safety and foster trust. Lawan’s experience in the National Assembly could enable him to advocate successfully for policies that prioritize security alongside development.

Broadly, in Borno politics, few figures have sparked as much debate and speculation as Kaka Shehu. His ascent amidst a cadre of classical, orthodox, traditional, and political elites has ignited concerns about loyalty, power dynamics, and the very fabric of governance in the region. As he prepares to contest for influential positions, if the comments on the Borno social media platform are true, the whispers surrounding his potential for change echo louder by the day. The intrigue surrounding Kaka Shehu is fueled by fears of what he might unleash should he gain significant power. However, it is crucial to analyze these fears critically, understanding that Kaka represents not just an individual ambition but a challenge to entrenched political norms and practices in Borno.

Kaka Shehu’s political journey has been marked by resilience and adaptability, qualities that set him apart in an environment often resistant to change. From his initial forays into politics, he has demonstrated an uncanny ability to navigate the treacherous waters of political competition, suggesting a depth of strategic thought. Unlike many of his contemporaries, whose allegiances may be dictated by longstanding traditions and familial ties, Kaka appears to embrace a more dynamic approach. This approach does not merely signify personal ambition; it reflects a broader potential for reshaping the political narrative in Borno.

The apprehension among the political elites regarding Kaka Shehu is deeply rooted in historical patterns of loyalty and governance. Traditionally, political power in Borno has been concentrated among a select group of individuals defined as gatekeepers of political authority—those with deep-rooted connections across various societal strata. These elites often rely on patronage networks to maintain their influence, making any challenge to their authority a threat to the status quo. Senator Lawan’s rise, characterized by a departure from these established norms, is viewed as an existential threat. It stirs concerns about loyalty and the implications of realigning political alliances, which could disrupt the delicate balance that has historically sustained traditional power structures.

The whispers of loyalty extend beyond mere political allegiance; they touch upon the profound cultural connections that bind leaders to their communities. The fear among the elites is that Kaka Shehu, with his vibrant persona and relatable rhetoric, may attract a coalition of support that transcends traditional affiliations. This could potentially empower marginalized voices and reshape the electorate’s expectations, leading to a more participatory political climate in Borno. Such shifts pose a challenge not only to the existing political hierarchy but also to the foundational notions of loyalty cultivated within it.

However, the narrative around Kaka Shehu is not solely defined by the fears of the elites. It is essential to consider the strengths he embodies—a blend of youthful energy, innovative thinking, and a willingness to confront challenges head-on. Kaka’s reputation for “fearing no storm” underscores a commitment to resilience. In a region grappling with numerous socio-political issues, including security concerns, economic instability, and governance deficits, Lawan’s preparedness—rumored to encompass alternative plans and strategies—illustrates a proactive approach to leadership. The stakeholders in Borno must recognize that a leader unencumbered by traditional shackles can infuse fresh perspectives into governance.

Kaka Shehu’s political battles thus far are a testament not only to his tenacity but also to his understanding of the intricacies of power. Engaging in political skirmishes has equipped him with valuable insights into maneuvering through the complexities of Borno’s political arena. His experiences reflect a pragmatic understanding of the need for alliances while simultaneously laying the groundwork for a transformative agenda. Should he ascend to a position of power, Kaka is likely to leverage his insights, not solely for personal gain but rather to address pressing issues impacting the citizens of Borno State.

There is also an essential conversation surrounding the perception of power and its influence on Kaka’s ambitions. Many perceive the young politician as a disruptive force, unafraid to question established doctrines. This disruption, however, should not be misconstrued as reckless ambition; instead, it embodies a desire for equitable governance and transparency. By positioning himself as an agent of change, Kaka is appealing to a younger generation that seeks representation and accountability in their leaders. This demographic shift in political allegiance could serve as a catalyst for the establishment of a more inclusive political discourse in Borno.

Indeed, Kaka Shehu’s ability to maintain multiple alternative plans demonstrates strategic foresight. In a political environment fraught with uncertainty, having a contingency plan is vital for navigating unexpected challenges. Kaka’s readiness to adapt is a key factor that underpins his attractiveness as a potential leader. The elites in Borno must reckon with the reality that political landscapes are evolving, necessitating leaders who can pivot and respond effectively to their constituents’ needs. This adaptability may very well delineate the difference between continued stagnation and progressive governance in Borno.

As the electoral processes unfold, Kaka’s challenge to the political elites in Borno presents an opportunity for critical reflection among the electorate. Voters must consider whether adhering to traditional loyalties serves their interests or if embracing new leadership could catalyze meaningful change. The choice before them is not merely about Kaka Shehu as an individual but about the future trajectory of governance in Borno. To ignore this moment would stifle potential progress, reinforcing the cycle of complacency among those in power.

While the political elites’ fears of Kaka Shehu’s ascent remain tangible, they also illuminate a vital truth—the hesitancy tied to change often stems from the potential loss of power. However, true leadership is not solely defined by consolidation of authority; rather, it is reflected in the capacity to inspire trust, foster collaboration, and encourage civic engagement. Kaka’s emergence as a contender represents a potential reimagining of political engagement in Borno, wherein dialogue trumps intimidation, and vision supersedes tradition.

Who is Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima?

By: Dr. James Bwala

Last night someone asked me this question while we listened to three series of radio interviews with Malam Ahmed Yerima on different titles: “akwai kallo,” “rashin tabbas,” etc., and this particular politician, who invited me for dinner at his mansion, said he is amazed by the calmness of the VP in all that has been going on around as we listened to the Hausa interview. I asked him how long he has known the VP. His reply was close to when he became the vice president. I told him the vice president reads. That was what made him different, and that is who he is. Rather than understand my reply, he got confused by my simple reply, and I noticed it, but we laughed it all off.

As he navigates the political terrain, his calmness amid chaos serves as an example for current and aspiring leaders alike. Ultimately, Shettima demonstrates that embracing knowledge and wisdom is not merely a personal endeavor but a foundation upon which impactful leadership can be built, creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.

The Respectful Leadership of Vice President Kashim Shettima

By: Dr. James Bwala

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, stood where respect and integrity define a man and his character. He embodies what can be tagged as pure respect over the rhetorical blend of others who trade where respect and integrity are often overshadowed by ambition and divisive rhetoric. His character exemplifies respect towards everyone he encounters.

Kashim Shettima’s respect for President Tinubu is multi-dimensional, stemming not only from their current partnership in governance but also from the deep-rooted ties they forged long before assuming their respective offices. This relationship is underpinned by a shared vision for Nigeria’s future, founded on mutual respect and understanding.

Shettima regards Tinubu as “Baba,” a title that denotes both familial affection and acknowledgment of his elder status. This appellation reflects a cultural norm within Nigeria, where elders are respected and revered. By embracing this tradition, Shettima establishes a clear message of respect that resonates with the Nigerian populace, reinforcing the importance of solidarity and cohesion among leaders.

In examining the political context of their relationship, it becomes evident that the calls for Shettima’s replacement are politically motivated and lack any substantial grounding. Such discourse serves as a political gimmick, revealing more about the individuals behind these calls than about the efficacy of Shettima’s vice presidency.

In a time of political uncertainty and factional divides, those who conspire to undermine leadership often do so out of self-interest rather than a genuine desire for progress. Shettima remains unfazed by these distractions, demonstrating his commitment to collaboration with Tinubu while upholding the unique bond they share.

The steadfastness of Shettima’s character prompts reflection on the nature of political alliances and their impact on governance. In contrasting Shettima’s demeanor with that of those instigating discontent, we witness a powerful lesson in humility and respect. While others may engage in treachery and betrayal, Shettima chooses to uphold his principles and demonstrate loyalty. It is a refreshing departure from the often cutthroat nature of politics, reminding us that true leadership hinges upon respect and unity.

A significant aspect of Shettima’s respect for Tinubu lies in their shared experiences and struggles. Both men hail from different regions and backgrounds, yet their paths converged through a shared aspiration to elevate Nigeria. Before becoming political allies, they relied on their personal convictions and collective experiences to navigate challenges. This shared history fosters a profound sense of trust that is palpable in their interactions.

As Nigeria endeavors to tackle pressing issues such as economic reform, security, and infrastructure development, the strength derived from their mutual respect becomes increasingly crucial. The anticipated partnership between Tinubu and Shettima beyond the 2023 elections presents an opportunity to further affirm their commitment to the Nigerian people.

The notion that they will continue to guide the nation in 2027 calms the fears of uncertainty and potential leadership vacuums. The frivolous agendas of those who wish for discord only serve to highlight their insecurities and intentions to disrupt the progress they perceive will flow from the ongoing partnership of Tinubu and Shettima. In recognizing the disdain for dissenting voices, it becomes apparent that Nigeria needs leaders united by respect, trust, and a common vision.

As observers of the Nigerian political scene, it is crucial to remain vigilant against agenda-driven narratives that seek to undermine effective leadership. The political elite who seek to capitalize on discontent must be held accountable for their attempts to sow seeds of division among the populace. By publicly supporting the enduring partnership between Shettima and Tinubu, Nigerians can actively resist the wave of political animosity and foster an environment of collaboration focused on progressive governance.

For Vice President Shettima, respect is not merely a rhetorical device; it is a guiding principle woven into the fabric of his leadership style. When he interacts with fellow politicians or citizens, he does so with the recognition that each individual is valued and deserving of dignity. His respectful demeanor stands in stark contrast to the adversarial environment often seen in politics. This alignment between values and actions cultivates an atmosphere conducive to constructive dialogue and effective policymaking.

The role of respect in leadership cannot be overstated. It is the foundation upon which trust is built, enabling leaders to mobilize support and inspire confidence among their constituents. By respecting Tinubu, Shettima not only honors their shared journey but also reinforces a leadership ethos that emphasizes collaboration and teamwork. This synergy ultimately culminates in policies that address the pressing needs of the Nigerian populace and encourage active citizen participation in governance.

Kashim Shettima serves as an embodiment of respect in its purest form within the Nigerian political landscape. His unwavering regard for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu illuminates the power of mutual respect in fostering strong political alliances capable of navigating complex challenges.

As Nigeria stands at a crossroads, it becomes imperative to champion leaders who prioritize respect and integrity over ambition and division. By doing so, the nation can pave the way for a brighter future rooted in cooperation, understanding, and collective progress. Through the continued partnership of Tinubu and Shettima, Nigeria has the potential to thrive, showcasing that respect is indeed a powerful catalyst for positive change in leadership.

President Tinubu Receives Governor Kefas Into APC, Pledges Development Tie With Taraba

VP Shettima describes state as strategic to nation’s food, energy security

By: Our Reporter

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged a stronger development partnership with Taraba State following the formal entry of Governor Agbu Kefas and his supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is just as Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that the state is pivotal to Nigeria’s food and energy security.

Senator Shettima who represented the President at a grand reception to formally receive Governor Kefas to the APC in Jalingo on Saturday said President Tinubu had instructed him to assure the Governor of his place not only in the party, but in the continuing relationship to prioritise the development of the state.

“What makes us different from other political parties is that we believe that nations endure when they learn to recognise their quiet strengths. We believe that Taraba is one of such strengths. It is a land that feeds, powers, and steadies the nation without demanding applause,” the Vice President said.

Conveying President Tinubu’s message, VP Shettima assured Governor Kefas of his full place within the ruling party and a continued relationship focused on development.

“My dear brother, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked me to assure you of your place not only in the party, but in our continuing relationship to prioritise the development of our people. He has demonstrated that no region is expendable. No state is ornamental,” he said.

The VP said the event was not about discovering the state’s relevance, but acknowledging its long-established role in national cohesion.

“Today, we are not discovering Taraba. We are just acknowledging what we have always known: its place at the centre of Nigeria’s political stability and future,” VP Shettima stated.

The Vice President said the APC was conceived as a unifying platform designed to bring Nigeria’s diverse regions together around a shared national purpose.

“The All Progressives Congress was built as a meeting point. A place where regions converge. Where differences find direction. Where ambition is disciplined by purpose.”

According to him, Taraba’s entry into the ruling party strengthens that convergence at multiple levels, noting that “to have Taraba firmly within this fold is to strengthen that convergence.

“Strategically. Politically. Economically. This is so because Taraba sits where food security meets energy security. Where fertile land meets flowing water. Where mineral wealth meets industrial possibility,” he added.

He added that the state reinforces the APC’s commitment to balanced national development.

Welcoming Governor Kefas into the party, VP Shettima said the decision reflected a clear understanding of governance as a partnership rather than isolation.

“Leadership, at its core, is the courage to align destiny with reality,” he said. “He understands that governance is not an act of isolation, but an act of partnership. That progress is faster when vision meets structure.”

VP Shettima said Governor Kefas’ decision to join the APC reinforces those principles and strengthens national cohesion.

“Today also showcases what the APC represents: that we are a party that grows by conviction, not compulsion. By inclusion, not exclusion. By performance, not noise,” the Vice President said.

Also speaking at the event, the Senate President, represented by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, congratulated the Taraba Governor for taking the best decision for the state by joining the governing APC.

“By this decision, progress is brought to the state. This will enhance agriculture, infrastructure and the economy of Taraba state,” he stated

Barau said it was a wise decision that would bring prosperity to the state, noting that the entire National Assembly is in support of the decision.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, thanked Governor Kefas for saving the state from what he called “the sinking PDP.”

He said moving from such a sick party is the best decision he has made, describing it as a move to accelerate progress, development and prosperity in the state.

“The best thing is to align with the centre so that all the good things and policies happening at that level will come to Taraba State,” he noted.

In his remarks, the Governor of Taraba State, Kefas, commended the security operatives in the state for ensuring the safety of the citizens, saying his defection to the APC, is not about playing politics or dwelling in the past but to live with purpose.

He noted that while some may see his defection as perversion or ambition, his decision is for the youth, for infrastructure, for the elders and the progress of Taraba State.

The Governor said Taraba must move into the center to benefit from the policies and the programs of our President of the present government.

Also, Ekiti State Governor, Hon. Abiodun Abyomi Oyebanji, who represented the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said Governor Kefas has made the best decision by joining the progressives to attract dividends of democracy to the state in terms of agriculture, infrastructure and everything good for Taraba State.

Highlight of the event was the handing over of the APC flag to the Governor as a sign of being the leader of the party in the state.
