60 Families of Deceased NSCDC Personnel Get N200 million Life Insurance Benefits
By: Michael Mike
Sixty families of deceased personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), on Wednesday, received over N200 million as life insurance benefits.
Distributing the money to the beneficiaries whose families died in active service in Abuja, Commandant General of the corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, said the 60 families are the first tranche of life insurance benefits roll out, promising that the agency is working to ensure that all those that are entitled to such benefits are captured and attended to accordingly.
Audi disclosed that the rollout of the tranches of beneficiary covers as early as 2004 to date and as part of the agency’s drive to make the welfare of officers a priority; and that every officer gets what is due to him or her.
He said: “Today we are celebrating our colleagues who died in the line of duty while serving meritoriously for years. Today, we recognize all the effort they have put in while they were in service by giving their life insurance to their next of kin.
“When I was first appointed, we took some giant steps one of which is the prioritization of the welfare of our personnel in order to build their morale. We have realized that when you champion the welfare of staff and improve their living condition, it will boost productivity and brings about good result.”
Audi, while appreciating the federal government for supporting the corps by ensuring that the death insurance benefits are paid, advised beneficiaries to make good use of the sums received by investing wisely.
One of the beneficiaries, Ojo Olusegun who took home N17 million as his late father’s life insurance, told journalists that the hope of many has been brought to life after seeing that others received the benefits of their loved ones.

Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have neutralised an armed militia in Plateau State after he attempted to disarm a soldier during an operation.
Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred on Sept. 5 during a follow-up operation to a hideout in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
A day earlier, on Sept. 4, troops had arrested the militia at Kaskra with an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to involvement in several criminal activities within Barkin Ladi and volunteered to lead troops to the hideout of his cohorts to recover weapons.
Sources said that while the search was ongoing at the hideout, the militia made a desperate attempt to snatch a soldier’s rifle in order to escape.
“He was swiftly overpowered and neutralised by the troops in the process,” one of the sources said.
The remains of the deceased suspect were deposited at a hospital morgue, while follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and recover more weapons.
The sources reaffirmed military’s commitment to sustain the momentum against armed militias and other criminal elements in Plateau, stressing that no effort would be spared in restoring peace and stability across the Joint Operations Area.
