Afegbua To Atiku: Your Visit To The US, A Show Of Shame

Former commissioner of Information in Edo State, Prince Kassim Afegbua and the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation have clashed over the celebrated visit of Atiku Abubakar and former vice president and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the United States of America.

The Sun News reports that while Afegbua said it was a shame the PDP candidate was celebrating his visit at a time flood had sacked several communities in Nigeria, the campaign organisation said the foreign engagements would yield massive investment and jobs, if he is elected president in next year’s polls.

According to Afegbua: “At a time that most Nigerian villages and communities are heavily flooded, it takes an unconscionable mind to be celebrating an entry into the United States like when a baby jumps at a piece of chocolate.

“A leader that wants to preside over Nigeria ought to be – at this critical time of our ecological disaster – around to share and commiserate with his people and also, show humanitarian presence; especially as he was here when the incident happened. Only people who are blinded by inordinate ambition, display their greed and hunger for power and damn all consequences, to sail through.”

Afegbua said Atiku travelled with those he referred to as “his musketeers” on a “negotiated” entry visa to escape arrest because he still has some cases to answer to in the United States.

He further said, “In deliberate effort to impress his supporters and followers, Atiku Abubakar and his musketeers have again travelled to The US on negotiated entry just like in 2019.

This time, he was seen with his musketeers parading empty corridors in photo-ops to impress us back home. The truth of the matter is that, Atiku Abubakar still has questions to answer because he has not been discharged and acquitted of his corruption allegations that border on money laundering in The US. In 2019, he was granted negotiated entry, just like now; this is his leave to create the impression that all was well.”

He noted that the former vice president must address the questions on why he was allegedly barred from entering the United States and if he has been cleared of the said allegations.

“Was he indeed barred from entry before now? What were the factors or reasons for his initial ban? Have those issues been addressed? Has he been discharged and acquitted of those allegations? Why this so-called celebration if there are no undertones?

“Atiku Abubakar was received in the United States by those who were on his entourage. They posted photographs of themselves like members of Jacobian scandal club of post-independence America. When the subject matter is unsailing, they will resort to banner display, showing that Atiku Abubakar was going to take Houston by storm. They were parading the streets of America like directionless straying flock. They think we are fools. With all that is hanging on his neck, no American official would usher Atiku Abubakar into their presence. I doubt that Americans are used to having presidential candidates with dubitable character. For Atiku, I will recommend first things first strategy; clear your name and the rest can follow. That is how upstanding people behave. Nigerians have now come of age, and are no longer politically illiterate; hence they are asking pertinent questions about this yet “mysterious” trip.”

But the Atiku camp, in a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, said Atiku’s current visit the United States(US), where he is scheduled among other things to engage with the Chamber of Commerce’s US-Africa Business Center, would further build policy thrusts that will fast-track economic recovery and enhance peaceful co-existence in Nigeria.

“Atiku Abubakar’s visits are centered on engagements with policy influencers in the bid to engender an international collaborative solutions to our national challenges including the economy and security which have been ruined by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

As the 2027 elections approach, the political landscape in Nigeria is rife with speculation and maneuvering. Despite pressures from various coalitions, particularly from the North-Central region demanding a change in running mate, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima remain steadfast. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has categorically dismissed claims that Tinubu intends to replace Shettima as baseless and politically motivated. This resolute stance demonstrates their commitment to maintaining stability within the party during a crucial election period.

The demands of the North-Central coalition for representation stem from long-standing grievances regarding political marginalization. However, it is essential to recognize that calls for equity must be balanced with the realities of governance. The APC’s position emphasizes that any discussions about changing vice presidential candidates are premature given that Tinubu has not yet completed his first term. This perspective suggests a focus on continuity rather than disruption, which can ultimately benefit national cohesion.

Furthermore, influential stakeholders have expressed skepticism about any coalition’s ability to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid effectively. Their administration’s inclusive policies and initiatives have been instrumental in fostering a sense of national unity, which has significantly diminished the impact of divisive political maneuvers.

Despite these demands, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima appear unfazed, continuing to focus on their governance agenda while maintaining a united front against any attempts to destabilize their administration’s progress. Despite the coalition’s demands and political maneuvering, both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain focused on their governance agenda, confident in their administration’s ability to deliver on its promises and maintain public support.

Hakeem Baba Ahmed: The Call Boy, the Tactical Move, and 2027

By: Dr. James Bwala

Hakeem Baba Ahmed’s resignation as political advisor to the president underscores the complexity of Nigeria’s democracy and reveals a deeper narrative about the power struggles leading to the 2027 elections. The apparent sidelining of VP Shettima by Tinubu, according to some narratives, informed his resignation. But this is far from the truth. That was a move by the coalition of political gladiators strategizing to bring forces together against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his co-travelers. The VP remains one strong pillar around the President that this coalition knows, and they are making efforts to separate this bond so as to strike hard on the President. This also informed the continuous rhetoric around the soft wall in the name of “rift in the presidency” through ‘fake new’s, which they hoped Nigerians would believe, and they also hoped to build on these in pursuing their goals for 2027.

Although critics have accused Baba Ahmed of prioritizing personal gain over regional interests in his decision to resign. Such accusations suggest that his initial acceptance of the advisory role may have been driven by financial incentives rather than genuine political commitment. Some rhetorical statements suggested that Baba Ahmed’s departure signals a fracture in the administration’s coherence and unity. But certainly that does not warrant his recent statements geared towards the 2027 elections.

His recent rhetoric surrounding the Nigerian presidency raises significant concerns regarding the political landscape leading up to 2027. His assertion that the North can secure the presidency irrespective of Southern demands reflects a divisive mindset that undermines national unity. Such statements not only alienate Southern constituents but also perpetuate an atmosphere of exclusion and hostility within Nigeria’s diverse society. The implications of this behavior suggest a strategic move aimed at consolidating Northern power, which could have detrimental effects on the nation’s democratic processes.

Labeling Ahmed as “The Call Boy” serves to emphasize his role as a provocateur in this political theater. This moniker suggests an individual who prioritizes self-serving agendas over collective progress, potentially jeopardizing Nigeria’s future stability. As we approach the critical election year of 2027, it is imperative for Nigerian leaders to adopt inclusive strategies rather than engage in polarizing tactics. A collaborative approach will foster national cohesion and ensure that all voices are heard in shaping Nigeria’s trajectory. A genuine commitment to dialogue and mutual respect among Nigeria’s diverse regions will be essential in overcoming the challenges posed by such divisive rhetoric.

Fostering this environment of unity will not only pave the way for a more equitable political framework but also strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions in the long term. By prioritizing policies that bridge regional divides and address the socio-economic disparities plaguing the nation, leaders can create a more resilient and united Nigeria poised for growth and prosperity. Such a shift from divisive tactics to inclusive governance could mitigate the risks associated with concentrated power and foster a more balanced political landscape.

By focusing on these inclusive governance strategies, Nigeria can begin to dismantle the entrenched systems of patronage and nepotism that have long undermined its political integrity. By fostering a political environment that values inclusivity over exclusion, Nigeria can lay the groundwork for sustainable peace and development, steering away from rhetoric that alienates large segments of the population. By embracing a vision for 2027 that emphasizes strategic alliances and tactical inclusiveness, Nigeria can harness its diverse human resources to drive national progress and stability.

By prioritizing collaboration and mutual respect, political actors can create a more equitable system that reflects the aspirations of all Nigerians, potentially transforming the country’s trajectory as it approaches 2027. And by implementing policies that encourage transparency and accountability, the nation can move beyond divisive narratives and work towards a future where every citizen feels represented and valued. Such a shift in political culture could be the tactical move needed to redefine leadership dynamics and pave the way for a more harmonious and prosperous Nigeria by 2027. This paradigm shift requires leaders like Hakeem Baba Ahmed to transcend traditional power plays and engage in meaningful dialogue that prioritizes unity over division.

Baba Ahmed can champion a political landscape that embraces inclusivity as a cornerstone for future governance. He can pave the way for a more harmonious political environment that prioritizes collective progress over individual gain. Such an approach not only enhances political stability but also fosters a sense of national identity that transcends ethnic and regional divides, setting the stage for robust development as the 2027 milestone approaches. Leveraging his influence and advocating for policies that dismantle systemic barriers, Baba Ahmed can inspire a new generation of leaders committed to the principles of justice and equality. He can potentially transform the political landscape into one that is resilient and adaptable to the challenges of a rapidly changing world by setting an example of inclusive leadership.

By embracing this transformative approach, Hakeem Baba Ahmed not only positions himself as a visionary leader but also sets a precedent for others to follow; he can redefine what it means to lead a nation by fostering a political ethos that values empathy, transparency, and accountability above all else. By fostering a culture that prioritizes these values, Baba Ahmed can galvanize collective action towards a shared vision of national prosperity and peace, and by nurturing these values within the political framework, he will not only champion a future-ready governance model but also strengthen the democratic fabric of the nation.

While some Nigerians would still be tempted to inquire about why Hakeem Baba Ahmed resigned, it is more pertinent to focus on how these developments impact Vice President Shettima’s ability to govern effectively in an increasingly challenging political environment. As we delve deeper into the implications of Baba Ahmed’s resignation, it becomes evident that this event is not merely a personal decision but a reflection of broader systemic challenges within the Nigerian political landscape. This situation underscores the need for a reevaluation of the power dynamics at play, where political allies become adversaries due to competing interests and restricted communication channels.

VP Kashim Shettima

Coalition of opposition: Shake it, blow it, and throw it; VP Shettima will still stand tall in 2027.

By: Dr. James Bwala

The political landscape leading up to the 2027 Nigerian elections is characterized by contrasting narratives regarding Vice President Kashim Shettima’s position. On one hand, advocates within the ruling party assert that Shettima will withstand opposition challenges largely due to his commitment and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The spokesperson for the Vice President has dismissed reports of rifts and undermining within the presidency as “fictitious narratives,” suggesting a strong internal cohesion aimed at economic growth and national stability. This perspective paints a picture of a united front against any potential dissent from opposition coalitions.

Conversely, the formation of an opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar poses a significant challenge to Shettima’s standing. This coalition aims to consolidate efforts among various parties to effectively contest Tinubu in the upcoming election. Such developments indicate that while Shettima may project confidence and stability from within his party, external pressures could significantly alter his political trajectory as rival factions coalesce around shared objectives. Thus, while internal dynamics favor continuity for Shettima, external coalitions threaten his unchallenged position in 2027.

Nonetheless, the resilience of Shettima’s political stance is fortified by his deep-rooted connections within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his strategic acumen in navigating Nigeria’s complex political terrain. His ability to maintain alliances and leverage political networks within the APC could prove instrumental in countering the opposition’s unified front. Moreover, his adeptness in policy implementation and focus on pivotal national issues such as security and infrastructural development further bolster his political capital, positioning him as a formidable contender even amidst the evolving political landscape.

Shettima’s proven track record in governance and his ability to address regional disparities resonate well with the electorate, potentially swaying public opinion in his favor despite opposition efforts. His strategic focus on these critical issues not only enhances his appeal among voters but also strengthens his position as a key player within the APC, potentially neutralizing the impact of any opposition alliances. This resilience is further underscored by his unwavering commitment to the Tinubu administration’s agenda, as emphasized by spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha, who dismisses allegations of internal rifts as “fictitious narratives.”

The Vice President’s focus on economic growth, unity, and national stability remains unwavering. This steadfast dedication not only fortifies his political stance but also inspires confidence among supporters, suggesting that despite potential opposition coalitions, Shettima’s influence and leadership capabilities are likely to endure. As the political landscape evolves, Shettima’s adeptness at navigating complex political dynamics and fostering alliances across party lines further solidifies his standing, ensuring that any coalition of opposition will face significant challenges in altering the current balance of power.

His strategic vision and ability to articulate a clear path forward resonate with a broad spectrum of the electorate, reinforcing his position as a formidable contender in the forthcoming elections. Moreover, his resilience in the face of political adversity and his commitment to national development further endear him to voters who prioritize stability and progress over partisan conflicts. His unwavering dedication to these core values not only bolsters his appeal among the electorate but also positions him as a symbol of continuity and assurance amidst the ever-shifting political landscape.

However, the coalition of opposition parties, while a formidable force on paper, lacks the cohesive leadership and strategic vision that Vice President Shettima embodies. Their fragmented agenda and internal discord present an inherent weakness, particularly when juxtaposed with Shettima’s cohesive approach and well-defined policies that resonate with the electorate. Their inability to present a unified front or a coherent alternative vision ultimately undermines their capacity to effectively challenge Shettima’s well-established political machinery.

This disparity is further highlighted by the opposition’s struggle to maintain a consistent narrative, which contrasts starkly with Shettima’s disciplined communication strategy that consistently emphasizes his administration’s achievements and future goals. The electorate’s preference for a stable and coherent leadership structure becomes even more pronounced when considering the opposition’s inability to capitalize on key political moments or present a unified stance on pressing national issues.

Ultimately, this lack of cohesion within the opposition diminishes their credibility and effectiveness in mounting a viable challenge to Shettima. Their attempts to rally support are continually overshadowed by Shettima’s adept handling of national issues and his ability to inspire confidence among citizens who seek continuity and effective governance. The electorate’s trust in Shettima’s leadership is bolstered by his unwavering dedication to the Tinubu administration’s agenda, which prioritizes economic growth and national stability. This confidence is reinforced by Shettima’s strategic alliances and his ability to effectively leverage governmental resources to address critical national challenges, ensuring that his administration remains both relevant and impactful in the eyes of the electorate.

This strategic foresight, combined with Shettima’s adeptness at navigating complex political landscapes, places him in a formidable position to not only withstand opposition efforts but also to reinforce his standing as a resilient leader poised for the challenges of 2027.
