A TRIBUTE : ALHAJI UMARA BOLORI (1937- 2021)

By Balami Lazarus.

“Maiduguri stood still for Umara Bolori” Abubakar Yakubu Gana. The 40 days prayers of late Alhaji Umara Bolori who died on Thursday 24th June 2021 after a brief illness was marked with total submission to the will of God the giver of life and to whom we will return when the time comes.

Alhaji Umara was a Businessman, Philanthropist, Elder-stateman, Educationist, Peace-maker, Mentor and most importantly a Benefactor to many people out there including this writer.

Do you know that Bolori (Day) Secondary School now Brigadier Maimalari Secondary School Maiduguri came into existence because of his singular and selfless effort by contributing tremendously; the land, first school bus, uniforms and other educational materials both for his children and the school because of his love for education. Equally, this legacy he left behind is seen in one of his sons Mr. Abubakar Umara Bolori also known as Bolos among his school family mates (old students ) and peers.

Alhaji Bolori was a very generous gentleman and his generosity has no bounds. He was a loving father and grandfather, died and left behind many children, grandsons and daughters including numerous name-sakes. The Philanthropist was born in Bolori on the 24th of June 1937.

He was the eldest of all the living Boloris before his demise. The Boloris is one of the largest families in Maiduguri and in Borno emirate, they are the kings of Bolori ward/ and or district. They are found in every sector of Nigeria’s socio-economic and political environment. Alhaji Umara Bolori was eighty-four (84). And he will be fondly and proudly remembered for the good and worthy things he has done for humanity.

Moreso, as a historian/writer I see a historical significance in the death of Alhaji Umara Bolori which principally lies in his date of birth and that of his passage to eternity. Please note, 24th June 1937- 24th Jund, 2021. May Allah grant him Aljanna Fidausi. Ameen. Balami, a Publisher/ Columnist.
