ACReSAL inaugurates project committee in Yobe.

Yobe State Agro-Climatic in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has inaugurated the 153 local government projects management committee for the 17 local government areas of the state.
The composition of the committee has been drawn from relevant local government ministries, which include heads of department, traditional and religious representatives, women and youth group leaders, as well as representatives of people living with disabilities, among others.
The State Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, who is also the chairman of the steering committee, has inaugurated the local government project management committee.
The Commissioner charges the committee members to take ownership and ensure the sustainability of all projects to be executed.
Speaking earlier, the ACReSAL state project coordinator, Shehu Alhaji Mohammed, said the formation of the local committee is in line with the ACReSAL mandate to carry communities along in maintaining projects.
He revealed that the federal government has expressed a commitment to reclaim 4 million hectares of degraded land, and out of this number, Yobe ACReSAL is to reclaim 100,000 hectares.
According to him, at least nine people were selected in each of the 17 local government areas of the state.
He urged the leaders in the local government areas to support the committee in discharging their responsibility.

Tragedy struck in Zaria, Kaduna State, as one of the transport vehicles provided by the Sokoto State Government was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of four passengers.
The ill-fated vehicle, which bore the registration details of Isa Local Government Area, was reportedly on transit when the accident occurred in Zaria.
Eyewitnesses said the crash was severe, resulting in multiple casualties. Emergency responders and concerned residents were seen assisting the victims at the scene.
Authorities have yet to release official details regarding the cause of the accident or the total number of passengers on board.

Bandits kill community guard, steal firearm in Zamfara

Armed bandits have killed a member of the Community Protection Guard (CPG) in Dutsin Wake Village, Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, carting away his firearm.
Zagazola confirmed that the incident on Tuesday, stating that it occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on April 28.
The victim, identified as Faruk Suleman, was attacked by the assailants while on duty. He was fatally shot and his pump-action rifle was taken away by the attackers.
Security forces recovered body was recovered and taken to a hospital for autopsy.

Nigerian troops rescue 71 abducted passengers in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with local security forces, have rescued 71 persons abducted by armed bandits along the Faru–Janbako Road in Maradun Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama report that the incident occurred on April 28 at about 9:10 p.m., when a truck conveying 80 passengers from Niger State to Sabon Birni in Sokoto State was ambushed by suspected bandits at Tungan Na-Yarchiga.
Top security officials confirmed the development, stating that the bandits forcefully abducted all the occupants of the vehicle.
Following the report, a joint security team comprising of army, police Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (ZFSCPG), and local vigilantes (Yansakai) mobilized to the area and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
The intervention led to the successful rescue of 71 abducted persons, including men, women, and children. The victims were immediately taken to Faru Hospital for medical evaluation.
Sources said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining nine victims still in captivity.
