Boko Haram: Troops neutralize over 20 ISWAP elements in Borno
Reports reaching NEWSng indicated that three soldiers were killed yesterday while exchanging gunfire with elements of ISWAP attempting to make an inroad into Borno state..
The report also said that over 20 ISWAP fighters were killed during the engagement with troops.
The attacks were reported by resident and security operatives in Kumshe and also behind the 777 housing estate in Maiduguri.
Security sources said the attack in Maiduguri would have been a disaster for the Maiduguri residents.
According to a resident living around the 777 housing estate, who spoke to NEWSng on Sunday revealed that there were also heavy explosions and heavy exchange of gunshots behind 777 housing estates.
He said the incident started at about 10:15pm and lasted for several hours even as residents of Pompomari, 777 and 1000 housing estates also confirmed the heavy blasts and gunshots.
Residents said they could not sleep following the explosion and gunshots as families gathered to pray for God’s intervention.

“We could not sleep. My neighbour ran with his family to my house. We were all seated until morning. It reminded us of all the past because for some time now we have not heard of such an experience in Maiduguri.” Saleh Usman said
A security source who shared a video with Newsmen said It was God that has been protecting Maiduguri.
“Safety is of God. We were put on alert following the earlier attack around Kumshe where our troops fought gallantly and overcame the terrorists who tried to forcibly enter the town.
“The war is still on. Yesterday over seven of them were killed. But they keep regrouping and plan attack after attack. We always hear of their plans and we are always on alert for any attempt by these criminals and God will always protect us all. “He said.
The incident was coming hours after Nigerian soldiers at Banki Junction, Kumshe area of the state repelled a Boko Haram ambush where three soldiers and 20 terrorists were killed in the incident that occurred at about 07:45 p.m. on Friday.
The military authorities however did not comment on these attacks as an attempt to get the Army Spokesman, General Onyema Nwachukwu to comment did not yield result as at time of filing this story.
