Borno govt to start reconstruction of former B/Haram stronghold

The Borno State government have confirmed it readiness to commence immediate reconstruction of both public and residential structures in a former Boko Haram stonghold recently recaptured by the Nigerian military.

It reports that Gudumbali is a remote town in the fringe of lake chad and believed to have been one of the deadly stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents where hundreds of soldiers were killed, both public and private structures as well as armaments of the troops were completely destroyed.

The State Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (MRRR) and Chairman of the Committee, Engr. Mustapha Gubio reaffirmed this after an assessment visit to Gudumbali town, headquarter of Guzamala local government area of Borno state at the weekend.


It was gathered that Governor Zulum had recently charged the troops to recapture the Gudumbali town to enables the ongoing rebuilding and resettlement process of his administration during an inaugural of the resettlement committee last month.


It would be recall that in 2014 Gudumbali town witnessed its first attack by Boko Haram and the communities were displaced to Monguno and Maiduguri respectively. They were resettled in 2018 to Gudumbali but after three months they were chased out and lastly resettled in 2020 they were equally displaced up to date.


Engr Mustapha Gubio maintained that the committee first priority is to have a military formation in Gudumbali town so that reconstruction and resettlement process would be achieved in a short possible time.


“We conduct an assessment on the level of destruction in Gulumbali the headquarters of Guzalama local government area, as the Chairman of the committee have said we are going back and submit the report to the governor then the committee will now reconstruction activity. Thereafter resettlement activity will follow.


Speaking on the immediate priority, “we need security on ground and they should stay here in Gudumbali town then they will now scan the whole town, this will now pave way for us to come in to clear the town and start the reconstruction of public and residential structures,” Engr. Gubio assured.


Other members in the entourage include Commissioner Ministry of Local Government and Emirates Affairs Hon Sugun Mai Mele, Permanent Secretary MRRR Engr Abba Yusuf, Permanent Secretary Housing and Energy, Mohammed Kyari Abdu, Hon Tijjani Special Adviser on Animals and Fisheries, Muhammad Musa Zarami Head of Humanitarian Activities NEDC,Chairman Guzamala LGA, District head of Gudumbali, Zannah Waziri Ibrahim Musa among others.

Two young farmers found dead in Taraba community

Tension has gripped Bandawa-Kota community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of two young men in a nearby bush.

Zagazola Makama report that the deceased, identified as Monday Samuel and Kawu Rabo, reportedly left their homes on Friday, June 27, to work on their farm but never returned.

Worried by their disappearance, family members and youths from the community launched a search on Saturday morning. Their bodies were eventually found in the bush, raising concerns of suspected foul play.

The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with residents calling for justice and demanding swift action to apprehend those behind the killings.

The corpses of the victims were recovered by the police and documented before being released to the families for burial, in accordance with local customs.

Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the culprits.

Troops repel armed herdsmen attack on farmers in Benue

Farmers and residents along the Daudu–Makurdi Expressway in Benue State were thrown into panic on Saturday following an attempted attack by armed herdsmen at Atson Village.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident, which occurred at about 3:18 p.m., led to chaos as people fled in different directions some towards Agan Toll Gate and others toward Gbajimba Road after reports emerged that armed herders were invading farms and destroying crops.

The sources said the attackers were heavily armed and had begun chasing farmers from their farmlands when security surveillance teams patrolling the area intervened.

On sighting the troops, the armed herdsmen reportedly fled into the bush.

Calm has since been restored to the affected area, and a joint patrol by security operatives is ongoing to ensure the safety of lives and property and to prevent a recurrence.

Communal clash erupts between Gwer East and konshisha communities in Benue, several houses burnt

Tensions flared on Saturday between the Mbaiase community of Gwer East Local Government Area and residents of Igbinde Village in Konshisha LGA, Benue State, resulting in the burning of houses and destruction of property worth millions of naira.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m., involved suspected militias from Mbaiase who reportedly launched an attack on Igbinde Village, part of the Mbagusa/Mbatser Council Ward of Konshisha LGA.

The sources said several thatched houses were set ablaze, and valuables were destroyed during the attack. However, no casualties were recorded.

Army troops of Operation Whirl Stroke with other security personnel were promptly deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further violence.

Stakeholders from both LGAs, including traditional leaders and local council chairmen, have been contacted in efforts to initiate dialogue and find a lasting solution to the long-standing communal tension.

Confidence-building patrols and monitoring operations are ongoing in the affected areas.
