Borno State supports refugee farming activities by providing tractors and other incentives

The Chairman of the Borno State Repatriation Sub-Committee, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, presented on behalf of the Borno State Government an agricultural tractor with implements and cash support to support the farming activities of refugees due to recent food shortages in the camp as a result of donor fatigue. 

Recall that on Saturday, August 10, 2023, 249 (two hundred and forty-nine) Nigerian refugees residing in Minawao Refugee Camp in Mokolo, Far North Region of Cameroon, commenced their journey to Banki town.

The journey started with a farewell ceremony at the governor’s office in Maroua, where His Excellency Minjinyawa Bakari bid the refugees farewell and presented gifts from His Excellency President Paul Biya and Her Excellency Madam Chaltan Biya, respectively.

He appreciates His Excellency President Paul Biya and Her Excellency Madam Chaltan Biya for the love and affection they have shown the refugees and Nigerians living in Cameroun. Wakilbe also commended the UNHCR for fulfilling all agreements in accordance with triapatite arrangements.

The refugees were received at the Banki by the District Head of Banki, Alh. Baba Shehu Arjinoma, the Commanding Officer of the 152nd Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Banki, Lt. Col. Ogundele, and officials of UNHCR Nigeria before moving to the reception facility within the Banki for the completion of repatriation formalities. 

Return packages were provided by the Borno State Government, comprising bags of rice, beans, maize, cooking oil, wrappers, seasoning, and cash to heads of households and wives, among others.
