Borno to give scholarships to 40,000 Students – Government

The Borno State Government has invested more than N500million in the payment of scholarship allowances to its students in tertiary institutions to boasts their hope and aspirations especially those vulnerable affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Executive Secretary of Borno State Scholarship Board, Malam Bala Isa disclosed this in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
Mallam said that the state government has reiterated its readiness to enrol at least 40,000 indigenes of Borno State studying in higher institutions in Nigeria in its scholarships program.

He noted that Zulum’s administration promised to revamp scholarship in the states as part of his plans of providing lasting solutions to the doctrine of Boko Haram, whose ideology abhors western education.
“The state government has spent the sum of N500 million for the payment of students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The state government is willing to do more to encourage our students.
“Our target for this year’s scholarship is to reach out to #40,000 students across boards including Diploma, NEC, HND, BSc and MSc. Only education we can use to change society and Gov Babagana Zulum has directed me to tell you that we are ready to support the aforementioned number across 27 local government areas of the state. We will continue to invest in the education sectors.”Bala said.
He maintained that education sectors have been worse hit by the war, saying education is the bedrock of every meaningful society.
Responding, the National president of the National Union Borno State Students (NUBOSS) Comrade Abubakar Sadiq Wajiro expressed his appreciation to Gov Babagana Zulum and promise to complement the efforts of the board in ensuring that more students register without challenges.
