Breaking: Many Injured As ISWAP Fighters Ambush Soldiers On Mission To Secure Politicians in Borno

Dozens of suspected ISWAP fighters ambushed a military convoy along the Gubio/Damasak highway in Borno State’s northern region.

Several soldiers were reportedly injured in the attack, and following a gun duel, utility vehicles belonging to the military were forcibly taken away.

The soldiers were on their way to Gubio in Borno State, northeast Nigeria to choose APC members for their ward congress in Damasak when they were ambushed at Kareto.

Bukar Gana Kareto, who represents the Kukawa/ Guzamala/Abadam/ Mobbar Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, hails from Kareto was said to narrowly escaped.

Kareto has been abandoned for years due to Boko Haram/ISWAP activity.

The lawmakers were scheduled to be escorted by the army from Abadam to Damasak, where their Ward Congress would be held.

Despite the fact that Abadam Local Government has been a no-go zone since 2014, politicians from the LGA were mobilised for a congress in Damasak, but they were unable to go due to the incident, and instead returned to Gubio.

This incident has elicited no response from military authorities. However, there were rumours that some politicians were abducted.
