Yobe State governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has promised to empower 300,000 youths with initial funding to set up their businesses as a way of eradicating poverty in the State.

The governor was speaking at a grand reception organised in his honour by people of the Yobe State to celebrate his return to the State after successfully completing his national assignment of leading the ruling party for about two years.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters in Damaturu, Governor Buni also promised to procure and distribute tricycles to youths across the State all in an effort to make them self-reliant.

He said as a youth-friendly governor, the current generation of young people represent the majority of the population in Yobe and is a dominant force now and therefore, his administration will do everything humanly possible to make them not only productive but suitable for other competitive jobs.

Recounting his experience as Chairman, APC, CECPC, and Governor Buni dedicated his achievements to the people of Yobe State who stood by him in prayers and support throughout his stay as Acting Chairman of APC.

Governor Buni also used the opportunity to call on politicians to be generous saying stingy politicians have no place in his government.

Bandits abduct four farmers in Zamfara

Atleast four farmers were abducted by suspected bandits in Tudun Moriki, Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources said the incident occurred on May 15 at about 12:00 p.m. while the victims were working on their farms.

Armed men stormed the farmlands and whisked away the victims to an unknown destination.

Security forces promptly mobilised to scene and launched a rescue operation, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the suspects.

Troops recover 1,000 rustled cattle, kill 2 bandits in Taraba–Plateau border clash

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have recovered about 1,000 rustled cattle and neutralised two bandits during a fierce gun battle along the Taraba–Plateau border.

Zagazola Makama understands that the peration followed an alert received on April 25 about over 60 armed bandits mounted on 30 motorcycles who crossed from Plateau into Taraba to rustle cattle from a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb.

According to the sources, troops of 6 Brigade,, swiftly mobilized and deployed to the scene noting that they joined forces with troops stationed at Jebjeb, who had earlier engaged the fleeing bandits.

The combined forces advanced to Komodoro village in Taraba State, where contact was made with the bandits who had crossed back into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State.

During the ensuing firefight, two bandits were killed, and approximately 1,000 stolen cattle were recovered.

The military said the recovered cattle have been moved to Jebjeb for onward handover to their rightful owners.

Zulum Apoints Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan as Chairperson of BOSCHMA

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan as Chairperson of the Board of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA).

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, the appointment is for an initial term of four (4) years.

The appointment is in accordance with the powers vested in the Governor under Section 5(1) of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency Law, 2018.

Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan is a seasoned administrator and held various leadership positions including permanent secretary in the Borno State civil service in the ministries of Agriculture, Budget and Planning and Water Resources. She was also the former state Accountant General.

She holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (Finance) at University of Maiduguri, and Fellow of several professional bodies including Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria and member Nigerian Institute of Management.

The newly appointed chairperson have attended numerous courses within and outside the country including Policy Strategic and Leadership course at the Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, and training in International Public Sector Accounting Standards conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) in London, among others.

Governor Zulum congratulated the newly appointed Chairperson and urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in advancing an effective contributory healthcare scheme in the state.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Borno State House of Assembly.
