The Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi will arrive in Abuja, Nigeria, on Wednesday for an official visit.
According to a press statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the visiting Foreign Minister who is also a Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be received on arrival by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Ebienfa said: “During his visit, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will meet with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar OON, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja on Thursday 9th January 2025 for bilateral talks that will focus on strengthening relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
“The visiting foreign minister will also pay a courtesy call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to deliver a special message from the Chinese President at the Presidential Villa.”

Eight killed, six injured as armed men attack bus in Plateau

Suspected Fulani militias have attacked a commercial bus conveying passengers from Bokkos Market, killing eight people and injuring six others in Plateau State, the police have confirmed.
Zagazola Makama reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 5:00 p.m. along the Mangor village road in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The victims were returning to Chirang and Mile Bakwai villages after the day’s market activities when the assailants ambushed them and opened fire on the vehicle.
As a result, eight persons died on the spot, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were evacuated to a nearby health facility.
A combined team of troops of the Special Task Force (STF) were swiftly mobilised to the scene.
The Security forces engaged the attackers in a gun duel and pursued them into the forest. During the clearance operations, one officer from the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) sustained a gunshot wound and was initially treated at a local clinic before being transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for further medical attention.
Security forces said clearance operations are still ongoing in the area, with additional reinforcements deployed to restore calm and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Police inspector killed in ambush while on special duty in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one of its officers, Inspector Philemon Akawu, who was attacked by suspected hoodlums while on special duty in Bokkos Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama report that the incident occurred early Wednesday morning near Yelwa Nono village, where the officer was deployed for internal security operations.
According to police sources, Akawu, was posted from the Department of Operations (DOPS) in Jos and had been assigned to Yelwa Nono for reinforcement duty due to rising security threats in the area.
The officer was said to have been ambushed and killed in a bush close to the security camp at about 7:30 a.m. while performing his duties.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bokkos visited the scene of the crime and coordinated the evacuation of the corpse, which was deposited at Luna Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Police sources confirmed that investigations have been launched and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those behind the heinous act.

FCT police arrest 82 suspects in coordinated raids across black spots

A coordinated night operation by security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has led to the arrest of 82 suspects during simultaneous raids on identified black spots and uncompleted buildings.
Zagazola Makama reports that the operation, which took place on Saturday, July 26, around 11:40 p.m., was carried out across multiple locations including Kubwa, Gwagwa, Maitama, Iddo, Jikwoyi, Dawaki, and Dutse Alhaji.
During the raids, law enforcement personnel targeted areas notorious for criminal activities, including abandoned and uncompleted buildings that often serve as hideouts for miscreants.
A total of 82 individuals were arrested in connection with various offences. Security agents also recovered unspecified quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other illicit drugs and related paraphernalia.
According to officials, the suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening and interrogation at their respective divisional headquarters. Those found culpable will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The operation forms part of a renewed effort by authorities to rid the FCT of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents, especially as cases of petty crimes and drug-related offences continue to rise in urban neighborhoods.
A source at the FCT Command have assured that similar raids will continue in the coming weeks.
