Discount Viral Post of Religious Crisis in Yobe, Public Warned

Members of the public have been advised to discount a viral post that claimed that Yobe State is boiling with churches burnt and Christians killed, as they are warned that the North East state has not been under any security breach and that the article was the handiwork of mischief makers.

The advice was given by the Yobe State Police Command and spokesman to the Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Mallam Mamman Mohammed in separate press statements.

The statement by the Police titled: “A Trending Fake News,” signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yobe State Police Command, ASP Dungus AbdulKarim read: 

“The attention of Yobe State Police Command has been drawn to an information making round on social media to the effect that: 

“RE: Yobe in Nigeria is boiling now. Churches are being burnt, many Christians killed.Please pray even if its 5mins and forward to other people of faith for intercession. Don’t ignore. Cry to our God against those Islamic terrorists. He’ll hear and heal our land, 

Nigeria!From CAN Abuja.”  

Abdulkarim said: “However, in view of this sensitive information. The Yobe State Police Command writes to call on all indigenes of Yobe state and by extension all Nigerians to disregard the information because it is an outright fabrication, false and misleading as Yobe state is calm and all religious faith both Christians and Muslims are living in peace and harmony.

“The Police Command wish to also reiterate that the fake publication is the handwork of mischief makers who wants to throw Yobe State and Nigeria into confusion and religious conflagration.

“Finally, while reiterating the commitment of the Yobe State Police Command to provide a safe and secured environment where growth and development thrives.

“We wish to call on the general public to continue to cooperate and partner with the Command in this noble task.”

In his statement, the spokesman of the governor said: “The attention of Yobe state government has been drawn to a fake, absolutely false and misleading post in the social media purportedly from CAN Abuja, claiming that Yobe state is boiling.

“The post mischievously claimed “Yobe state in Nigeria is boiling now. Churches are being burnt, many christians killed. Please pray even if its 5 minutes and forward to other people of Faith for intercession. 

“The post added “Don’t ignore. Cry to our God against those Islamic Terrorists. He’ll hear and heal our land, Nigeria! From CAN Abuja”.

“The post also pleaded for repost “Please send to at least 10 Christians to stand in the gap: God bless you as you comply”

Mohammed said “the deceitful article is deliberately circulated to fan embers of hate and crisis among Nigerians of different faith.

“The mendacious post is over five years old. As a journalist, l had then received several calls from colleagues residing outside Yobe state seeking for details and clarifications.

“I wish to make it abundantly clear, just as the police authority in the state has done, that Yobe state by the Special grace of God is very calm and peaceful. 

“It is disheartening that mischief makers and doom seekers have continued to share this fake and misleading post intended to cause disharmony. 

“The public is hereby advised to disregard this mischievous post as Yobe state is very peaceful.”

Widows and orphans including less privileged in Maiduguri have lauded Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum for donating gift of N50,000 to over 250 of them for Christmas celebration.

The widows and orphans who were assembled on Tuesday, 24 December , at the pompomari area of Maiduguri, said the Governor’s benevolence has raised their hope of celebrating the festive period amid the economic crunch bedeveiling the citizens due to high cost of living.

Speaking, Maram Saleh who lost her husband four years ago, said she was thinking how she can even get some cups of rice and condiments for the Christmas before the Governor’s gesture came their way.

She therefore, lauded Governor Zulum for making the celebration a reality for so many of her kinds who are feeding from hand to mouth due to the loss of their bread winners, saying that she can now go home and celebrate the Christmas with her children with joy.

In the same sentiment, Patience Bitrus, a mother of five children who lost her husband at the pick of the Boko Haram insurgency, said her hope of celebrating the Christmas with members of her family was rekindled by the Governor’s benevolence.

” We are really grateful to Governor Zulum for coming to the aid of the widows and orphans especially, at this year’s Christmas when there is high cost of living and economic hardship. We will continue to pray for the Governor for more wisdom, good health and courage to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to the citizens as he has been doing,” she said.

Also speaking, trio of Eunice Onwuchekwe , Sarah Hakila and Elizabeth Ani, expressed their joy over the Governor’s gesture describing it as one of the best gifts coming their way.

The Coordinator/ Zonal Chairman Ohanaeze All Progressives Congress ( APC ) , Chief Ugochukwu Egwidike, commended Governor Zulum for coming to the aid of the widows, orphans and less with the Christmas gifts.

He noted that the Governor had been celebrating Christmas for the widows and orphans since 2020 to date with cash gifts, adding that 250 beneficiaries were targeted from benefiting from the gesture, but due to the harsh economic reality facing people of the country , more people turned up to benefit from the gesture. The Secretary of the Ohanaeze APC Support Group, Asiwaju Alabi , expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for providing free transport scheme to 710 non indigenes in the State to travel to their various States for the celebration of Christmas and new year with their loved ones, as well as the cash gifts to the widows and orphans in the State.

Zulum Extends Christmas Greetings to Christians, Vows to Steer Borno Towards Recovery

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has felicitated with the Christian community in the state on the occasion of Christmas, urging unity and support for his administration’s development efforts.

In a message delivered through his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the state’s goals outlined in the 10-Pact Agenda, 25-Year Development Plan, and 10-Year Strategic Initiatives.

Zulum called on Christians to use the spirit of the season to promote love, forgiveness and good neighbourliness.

“On behalf of the Borno State government, I extend warm greetings to my Christian brothers and sisters on this joyous occasion,” Governor Zulum stated. “I pray for a peaceful and prosperous celebration, and encourage all citizens to use this season to support the less privileged, fostering stronger relationships across all communities.”

Governor Zulum highlighted that his administration will prioritize post-conflict and post-flood recovery to improve the living standards of the people.

He reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality leadership and driving positive change to ensure sustainable growth for the State.

“The task of rebuilding Borno is a collective one,” he continued. “I am dedicated to leading efforts that will transform the state and elevate its citizens to path of prosperity.”

In response to the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidy and the ongoing economic difficulties, Governor Zulum’s administration is providing crucial support to vulnerable populations.

This includes the introduction of a mass transport system, distribution of relief items to over 35,000 returnee households, and enrollment of over 94,000 vulnerable individuals into a free healthcare program.

The Governor also expressed his appreciation for the Christian community in maintaining peace and unity throughout the state.

“I sincerely thank the people of Borno for their continued support over the past five and a half years,” Governor Zulum added. “I assure you that my administration remains steadfast in its commitment to securing lives, restoring livelihoods, and revitalizing the state’s economy.”

Zulum enjoins all citizens to be law abiding throughout the festive period and beyond as government is doing everything possible to ensure sustainable peace in Borno State.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has signed into law, the Gombe State Disability Protection Bill 2024, which paves the way for the establishment of the Gombe State Disability Commission.

The landmark law establishes a framework for the empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities, ensuring social justice, protecting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the state, as well as ensuring accessibility, and participation in the society like every other human being.

During the signing ceremony of the bill which held at the Government House, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, announced the appointment of Dr. Ishiyaku Adamu, Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Gombe state chapter, as the Executive Secretary of the Disability Commission.

“The establishment of the Disability Commission will serve as a platform to address the needs and aspirations of our brothers and sisters living with disabilities”, the Governor said.

He remarked that since coming onboard, he has been supporting the growth of the PWDs community, saying he previously appointed Special Adviser and Special Assistants to coordinate the activities of the PWDs and serve as liaison between them and the government.

The Governor used the occasion to inform the Disability community of his recent directives for the renovation and remodeling of the only Special School in the state, adding that his administration will build two additional Special Schools so each senatorial district can have one.

He commended members of the Gombe State House of Assembly for their commiment in passing the bill and acknowledged the contributions of advocacy groups and stakeholders who championed the cause.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, noted that the House had meticulously scrutinized every aspect of the bill to ensure its passage aligned with the aspirations of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) community.

Responding on behalf of the disability community, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Disability Commission, Dr. Ishiyaku Adamu, expressed gratitude to the governor for fulfilling a promise he made to the PWDs during the electioneering campaign in 2019.

“Today, you’ve set a record. I remember when we met with you during the electioneering campaign you made a promise that this bill would become a reality. And here it is today, we have witnessed this historic moment of signing it into law”, he stated.

“This commission will among others, promote education, healthcare and the well-being of persons with disabilities. Fifteen years ago, we took the same bill to the State House of Assembly, and it was rejected. Today, it has been passed and assented to. We will never forget this history. We thank the Governor, the State House of Assembly and other relevant stakeholders for making this possible”, Dr. Adamu added.

He informed the Governor that by signing the bill into law, Gombe has become the second state in the Northeast geo-political region to achieve this, assuring that he would work to ensure World Bank and other development partners support the commission in its activities.
