Escaped Kidnap Victim Rescued by Troops in Zamfara State Shares Harrowing experience

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim Salim Ishaq Umar, indigent of Gusau who escaped from a terrorist enclave in Munhaye Forest in Zamfara state after 47 days in captivity.
The escape reportedly occurred on the morning of November 12, after which the victim sought help from military personnel stationed nearby.
Following the rescue, the victim was transported to the CT 7 Headquarters in Tsafe, where military personnel conducted a preliminary debriefing.

Salim who shared the traumatic story of his abduction and captivity at the hands of armed kidnappers, revealed the brutal tactics used by criminal groups in Zamfara State. Umar recounted how he was abducted from his home on the night of August 8, 2024, when three armed men, one of whom wielded an AK-47 rifle, woke him from his sleep and took him into the bush.
During the attack, the assailants reportedly shot a security officer and confiscated Umar’s phone. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 30 million naira and five motorcycles, which his family managed to pay.
However, despite meeting these demands, Umar was not released. After 47 days in captivity, the kidnappers raised their demands, requesting an additional 100 million naira and ten motorcycles.

Together with two other captives, he planned to flee, though, tragically, only he managed to escape. His two fellow captives were captured again on November 11, 2024, shortly after their escape attempt.
Umar revealed that he was subjected to harsh conditions, including limited access to food and water, and witnessed threats against his life if further ransom demands were not met. He was eventually transferred to a new location in the bush where he remained until he managed to escape. He made his way to the nearest military post, where troops took him into protective custody.

Mentally unstable man kills 6-year-old boy in Niger

A 30-year-old man, identified as Basiru Umaru, has allegedly killed a six-year-old boy, Aliyu Muhammed, in Mariga Town, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The tragic incident occurred on June 28 at about 9:00 p.m., when the suspect, said to be mentally unstable, reportedly lured the child to a riverside in the area.
According to community sources, the suspect tied the boy’s hands and legs before throwing him into the river, where he drowned.
The parents of the deceased, who had declared him missing, were later led to the riverbank by the suspect himself. The child’s lifeless body was recovered shortly after.
Police personnel were deployed to the scene. The corpse was taken to a medical facility for autopsy, while concerned community members mobilised to ensure the suspect was restrained and isolated from the public.
Medical and mental health professionals are expected to conduct psychiatric evaluation on the suspect to determine his state of mind at the time of the incident.

Hoodlums attack Life Camp residence, injure housemaid

Armed robbers have attacked residence in the Life Camp area of Abuja, during which a housemaid was injured and valuables carted away.
The incident occurred on June 29 at about 3:00 a.m., according to a complaint lodged by the victim, Mrs. Okoli Uheoma, at the Life Camp Divisional Police Headquarters.
Mrs. Uheoma, who resides at No. 12 Asba Dantata Street, Old Gwarinpa Road, reported that five hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons broke into her apartment and made away with two laptops, two mobile phones, and assorted jewellery.
The attackers reportedly stabbed the family dog and inflicted knife wounds on her housemaid, identified simply as Agatha, who was later rushed to Cardio Care Hospital, Garki, for treatment.
Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene and the hospital. Photographic evidence was taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police sources say efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects and assured residents of its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area.

Police Officer wounded while repelling bandit attack on security camp in Katsina

Security forces have successfully repelled an attempted armed bandit attack on C Watch Camp in Rimaye Village, Kankia Local Government Area.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on June 30 when suspected armed bandits stormed the location in an attempt to overrun the camp.
Security sources swiftly mobilised a team to the scene, where they engaged the assailants in a gun duel.
The bandits were forced to retreat and flee the scene with unspecified casualties on their side.
During the exchange of gunfire, the Officer-in-Charge of Rimaye Police Outpost, ASP Shola Odenkule, sustained gunshot wounds on his right leg, as well as bruises to his head and right hand.
He was immediately rushed to Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), Rimaye, where he received medical treatment and was admitted for further observation.
