FG moves to secure Nigeria’s border with Niger

The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to secure Nigeria’s border with Niger Republic for improved security and development.

Secretary to the Government of Federation Boss Mustapha made this known at a local bilateral committee meeting involving Borno and Yobe States on the Nigerian side and Diffa region at the Niger side which took place at Government house Maiduguri.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary political and economic affairs Mr Andrew Adejo, Boss Mustapha explained that Nigeria and Niger Joint Commission for Cooperation was established in the 1990 to curb the waves of security threads, smuggling, trafficking and other sundry crimes.

Secretary General Nigeria/Niger Joint Commission, Ambassador Rabiu Akawu stressed that Nigeria and Niger had from the time immemorial shared many things in common and assured that the Commission will work in accordance with existing laws to safeguard the border of the two nations.

Borno State Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Kadafur who is also the Chairman Boundary Committee noted that Borno State Government is in the forefront of ensuring that its borders with other nations are secured.

He added that the State will strengthen relationships with the Commission for the safety and security of communities along the border.

Governor of Diffa region Isa Lamine who was represented by his Deputy Yahaya Gurbi thanked the Nigerian and Borno State Government for their commitment to the cause with Niger Republic and pledged Niger’s continued collaboration with Nigeria.
