Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state senator Ewuga dies in Cairo

A former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, and eggon chieftain Senator Solomon Ewuga has died.

He died on Tuesday in Cairo Egypt where he was undergoing treatment for a protracted illness.

A statement from the Palace of the Arena Eggon stated that the politician who had a distinguished career as a minister and senator was equally a titled chief holding the title of “Iyan Eggon”.

“It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that HRH, the Aren Eggon, announces the passing of Distinguished Senator Solomon Aku Ewuga. He was a prominent titleholder of IYAN EGGON.

“Barr Ewuga passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt, after a protracted illness, at the age of 70.

” He was an astute political leader, Lawyer, Media guru, an accomplished Administrator and a revered Elder Statesman .” said the statement.

The statement noted that before his demise, Chief Solomon Ewuga notably served amongst others,as: “Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the 7th National Assembly.”

Senator Ewuga championed critical initiatives, including: Advancing educational development and empowerment, Driving transformative projects, Mentoring and supporting youth development.

“Though he has left us, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations. His selfless service, leadership, and mentorship will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

The statement signed by Yahaya Inusa the sarkin Padan Eggon added that the family will announce funeral arrangements in due course even as efforts are underway to convey his corpse to Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senator David Mark, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Senator Solomon Ewuga.

Ewuga was described by Mark as a “distinguished public servant of repute who demonstrated fidelity to the ideals of nationhood.”

In a condolence message to the government and people of Nasarawa State, Mark lamented that Ewuga’s death came at a time when his wealth of experience and knowledge were most needed to guide Nigeria through turbulent political times.

“As a journalist, Ewuga was forthright. As a lawyer and a parliamentarian of note, he stood up to be counted when it mattered most.

“In Ewuga, the nation, especially the political class, has lost a vibrant and dependable ally. We shall miss his robust and objective contributions to national development,” Mark said.

He urged the government and people of Nasarawa State, as well as the bereaved family, to take solace in the fact that Ewuga lived an exemplary life and left indelible footprints in the sands of time.
