Gunmen Kidnapped Retired Police Inspector in Jos

Residents of Panyam district of Mangu Local Government Area have raised alarm over the menace of kidnapping, which according to them is spreading like a wildfire in the area and Nigeria as a whole.

The residents said the youth had also embraced the trends, a situation, which resulted to prone kidnapping in recent times. 

They urged the government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in Plateau State to curtail activities of dare devil derailing development in the state.

Sources available to NEWSng also affirmed that gunmen terrorising the residents of Panyam have kidnapped a retired police inspector at  his home on Tuesday at about 11pm in Daika community, in Panyam district of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State 

Mr Manji Luka a member of the community told NEWSng that ” the victim was kidnapped by some armed men who storm the community at midnight when most the people are fast asleep and abducted the retired police inspector after shooting in the air”

A vigilante in the community also alleged that as at the time of the incident, gun shot was heard but they were afraid go after the abductors because they were not armed compared to the kidnappers who are well armed with sophisticated weapon.

He added that the government need to equip them with better weapons if they truly want to stop the menace of frequent kidnapping in the community.

A family member of the victim also said that ” Ayuba Mangdilis was a retired police inspector and a native of Daika community of Panyam district in Mangu LGA,” he explained that, “the kidnappers came in their numbers on motorcycles knocking at the door of the victim and treating to kill his family while asking him to open the door, 

“when he refused they forcefully open the door and abducted him, they also  fired some shot in the air to scare the people before escaping with the victim. Up to this the gun men had not contacted the family of the victim.” He lamented.

This incident happened two weeks after two prominent members of the community were kidnapped and released after an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom.

However,  DSP Alfred Alabo the spokesman of Plateau State Police Command is yet to comment on the incident.

Troops repel attack on Forward Operating Base Azir in Damboa LGA, push back ISWAP terrorists

Troops stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, successfully repelled assault by terrorists of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) at about 1:30 a.m. on March 13.

According to security sources, the assailants approached the base from multiple directions, intending to overrun the facility.

Troops engaged the terrorists with indirect fire which lasted for several minutes forcing them to withdraw in disarray and preventing any breach of the base.

Aerial surveillance support was deployed to monitor the area and ensure containment of the threat. No casualties were reported among troops, while the attackers suffered undetermined losses.

Troops arrest suspected kidnapper, recover AK-47 in Damaturu

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a cordon-and-search operation in Damaturu Yobe state.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 11:30 a.m. on March 12 by troops in collaboration with members of the Yobe state hunters groups.

The sources said the troops conducted the cordon-and-search operation at Sidiri
Ngabarawa following credible intelligence on the presence of suspected criminal elements in the area.

During the operation, troops apprehended a suspected kidnapper identified as Ahmadu Malam, 30, a resident of Southern Ngabarawa.

Items recovered from the suspect included one AK-47 rifle with registration number HS3649 and an empty magazine.

Security sources said the suspect and the recovered weapon are currently in the custody of the 233 Battalion for preliminary investigation.

The sources added that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate believed to be operating within the area.

According to military authorities, the operation forms part of ongoing security efforts under Operation Hadin Kai aimed at dismantling criminal and insurgent networks operating across the North-East.

Security forces recover rustled cow, arrest four suspects in otukpo

The police in Benue have recovered one rustled cow and arrested four suspects in connection with a case of armed robbery and cattle rustling in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said that the development followed ongoing investigation into an earlier report of cattle rustling recorded on March 9.

According to the sources, one of the stolen cows was recovered in the possession of a suspect identified as Tunde Rafiu of Okpomaju Village in Otukpo LGA.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to purchasing the cow from another suspect identified as Maki Damina.

The police subsequently arrested Damina along with two other suspects believed to be linked to the cattle rustling network.

Security sources said there were strong suspicions that the remaining stolen cattle might be hidden in a bandits’ hideout at Amla area of Otukpo LGA.

They added that the use of police air support for aerial surveillance and operations in the area could assist in locating the suspected hideout, dismantling the criminal group and recovering the remaining cattle.

Investigation into the case was ongoing as efforts continued to track down other members of the syndicate.
