Kogi joins oil producing state, gets derivation allocation

Kogi has finally joined the league of oil producing states in Nigeria as it received the first derivation allocation from the Federation Account.

Mr Kingsley Fanwo, Information Commissioner, disclosed this shortly after the State Executive Council Meeting at Government House, Kogi.

Fanwo said that Gov Yahaya Bello, who dropped the cheering news during the meeting, assured residents of his administration’s determination to continue to record more wins for the state.

“It’s on record that this administration has recorded many giant strides in various sectors covering the thematic areas of our governor’s New Direction Blueprint.

“This new breakthrough in the “derivation allocation will no doubt make us do more for our people.

“On breaking the news, our governor said he was so elated to announce to the good people of Kogi State that the administration has received our first derivation allocation as an Oil Producing State.”

“This announcement is in line with the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, for which we have received many awards

“We worked hard to make this history. But we wouldn’t have achieved it without the support of our people, who stood resolutely with us to make this see the light of the day.

“We also wish to express our gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership roles as well as the RMAFC for making this a reality, ” he stated.

The Commissioner further said that Bello restated his promise to the people that he would ensure that the resources worked for them.

” We will build more schools, hospitals and construct more roads. We will empower our youth and women. Under my watch, we will ensure security.”

While noting that the allocation came at a time the State Government was building legacy projects across the state, the governor pledged to ensure “judicious use of the derivation allocation”.

“Our governor has once again proved that he is a goal getter with the tenacious manner he defended the interest of the state to be listed as an Oil Producing State, ” the Commissioner said.

Police launch manhunt after suspected abduction of two women in Abuja community

The FCT Police Command has launched a joint operation to rescue two women suspected to have been abducted during an armed invasion in the Aco Mbawpe area of Abuja.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when criminal elements armed with dangerous weapons stormed the community and attacked a private residence.

According to a police sources, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Iddo Division received a distress call at about 2:10 a.m. on July 23, alerting them to the attack.

“Upon receiving the report, our patrol teams were swiftly deployed to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the residence of one Fati Omale was invaded by the assailants, and she, along with another woman identified as Zainab Ibrahim, is believed to have been abducted to an unknown destination,” the police said in a statement.

In response to the incident, combined teams of Police Operatives from Iddo Division, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, as well as local vigilantes and hunters, have commenced a massive search and rescue operation.

The joint teams are combing the surrounding bushes and hills around the Aco Mbawpe axis, a semi-rural settlement on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, in a bid to locate the abductors’ hideout and ensure the safe return of the victims.

Shock as corpse of respected Islamic cleric found in Dansadau, Zamfara

Residents of Dansadau, a farming and cattle-rearing town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, woke up Tuesday morning to a grim discovery of the lifeless body of Malam Danladi Boss, a respected Islamic cleric and community leader in the Asibitin Elejah area of the town.

The deceased cleric body was found at the outskirts of Dansadau under suspicious and disturbing circumstances.

Local sources who first stumbled upon the body around 7:05 a.m., said the deceased appeared to have been killed overnight by unknown assailants, with no immediate witnesses or signs of struggle at the scene.

“He was a quiet, peaceful man. We don’t know why anyone would do this to him,” said Musa Dansadau, a relative of the deceased, visibly shaken by the incident.News of the death spread quickly, triggering a wave of mourning in the tightly-knit community.

While Dansadau has been one of the flashpoints in Zamfara’s ongoing battle with armed banditry, the killing of Malam Danladi has brought the violence closer to the heart of the town itself.

Fresh banditry attacks leave four dead, many injured in Zamfara’s Damri District

At least four farmers killed and several livestock stolen on Tuesday in Damri District of Bakura Local Government Area, Zamfara State, following a series of coordinated attacks by armed bandits.

It was learnt that the attacks, which occurred on Monday, July 21, were carried out by a large group of bandits estimated at over 60 riding on motorcycles.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the criminals first stormed Damri village at about 11:00 a.m., targeting unsuspecting farmers who were working on their farmlands.

“They just came suddenly, opened fire, and everyone started running,” said Alhaji Shehu Maikasuwa, a local farmer who escaped the assault. “Two people were hit and seriously injured.”

Later that same day, at about 5:45 p.m., the bandits reportedly returned in a more ferocious manner, launching near-simultaneous attacks on three other villages in the same district: Turmi, Zugudum, and Gidan Begu. The raids resulted in the deaths of four villagers and the theft of an undisclosed number of cattle.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, police and the Civilian Protection Guards (CPG), and local vigilantes were immediately deployed to the affected areas.

“Unfortunately, by the time our operatives arrived at the scenes, the bandits had already fled,said security sources.

He added that the corpses of the deceased were recovered, examined by medical personnel, and released to their families for burial in line with Islamic customs, while the injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
