NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine Hidden in Mortar, Backpack Bound for China, Italy; Arrests Suspected Drug Dealers Nationwide

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine consignments ingeniously concealed in a local mortar and the false bottom of a backpack destined for China and Italy, as it intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking syndicates.
The seizures, made by operatives of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI) at a Lagos logistics company on Thursday, involved 250 grammes of cocaine factory-fitted into the base of a traditional local mortar packaged for export to China and 500 grammes of cocaine hidden in the false compartment of a backpack bound for Italy.
The latest interceptions came as the anti-narcotics agency recorded a string of major arrests and seizures across Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa and Zamfara states.
In Rivers State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 38-year-old suspected notorious drug dealer, Ugo Okonkwo, at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, following intelligence-led surveillance. Various quantities of cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol and codeine syrup were recovered from him during the operation.
In Anambra State, officers on a stop-and-search operation at the DMGS Roundabout, Onitsha, intercepted a truck bearing registration number XK 131 BDG loaded with 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 3,960 kilogrammes. The truck driver, Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was arrested.
Similarly, in Delta State, operatives recovered 331.84 kilogrammes of skunk from a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number KUJ 26 DV along the Kwale-Ughelli Expressway.
In Nasarawa State, a 64-year-old suspect, Joseph Nwaeke, was arrested at Asso Angwan Muazu in Karu Local Government Area with 68 kilograms of skunk and 29 grams of methamphetamine.
In Zamfara State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Zaria-Gusau Highway intercepted Sani Umar, 27, who was allegedly transporting 7,400 tablets of Tramadol 225mg, suspected to be supplies intended for criminal and bandit groups operating in the region.
According to the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi, beyond enforcement operations, the agency sustained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign across the country. Sensitisation programmes during the week were conducted for students and staff in Kano, Oyo and Taraba States, as well as commercial drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park in Ibadan.
Commending officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations and the commands in Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa and Zamfara for the successful operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced strategy of aggressive enforcement alongside preventive drug abuse education.
The latest seizures underscore the evolving methods employed by drug trafficking networks and the agency’s continued efforts to disrupt both domestic distribution channels and international smuggling routes.

Troops Arrest Two Suspected Terrorist Informants at Askira Uba Market

Troops of 115 Task Force Battalion have arrested two suspected terrorist informants during a security operation at Askira Uba Market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 1 following intelligence-led surveillance by troops operating in the area.
The sources said the two suspects are believed to have been providing information to terrorist elements operating within the region.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Headquarters, 28 Task Force Brigade, for further investigation and other necessary actions.
Military sources said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks by identifying and apprehending informants and collaborators aiding insurgent activities in the North-East.

Troops arrest suspected ISWAP informant attempting to flee Adamawa community

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected ISWAP informant who allegedly attempted to flee after residents became suspicious of his activities in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, identified as Hassan Hammon Buba, 35, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. on July 31 by troops of the 232 Battalion (Tactical) at Garaha Market.
The sources said the arrest followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to suspected insurgent activities.
According to the sources, the suspect allegedly tried to escape from the community after noticing that local residents were making efforts to report his suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested two suspected terrorist informants during a fighting patrol at Askira Market in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 1 by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion acting on credible intelligence.
The suspects were identified as Gujiya Mamiyo Umar, 40, from Gargauli, and Adam Abba, 39, from Bulakurge village, both in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the troops arrested the duo during routine fighting and market patrols aimed at disrupting terrorist support networks and identifying collaborators operating within civilian communities.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Headquarters of the 28 Task Force Brigade for further investigation and other necessary actions.
Military sources said the operation forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle terrorist logistics and intelligence networks across the North-East.
They added that the general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops continue to maintain high morale and operational readiness in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.
