NDLEA raids drug joints nationwide, arrests 534 ahead of May 29 inauguration

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 534 persons in connection with drug crimes across the nation in an ongoing clampdown operation on drug joints nationwide aimed at ensuring a hitch-free inauguration of new administration both at the central and at state levels.
A statement on Friday by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi read: “The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has launched a nationwide raid of drug joints in an exercise code-named Operation Mop Up as part of law enforcement efforts to remove enablers of crime and violence in the form of illicit substances and those who deal in them with a view to ensuring peaceful inauguration of new administrations at national and sub-national levels across the country on May 29.”
Babafemi said: “Not less than 534 suspects have been arrested in the first few days of the commencement of the operation, during which tons of illicit drugs including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine-based syrup, cannabis sativa and various new psychoactive substances among others, were recovered across the states and the FCT.”
He revealed that top on the list of states with high arrests and seizures are Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Osun, Benue, Plateau and Abuja (FCT).
Babafemi said the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd) who ordered the operation commended all the officers and men of the state commands and other formations involved in the exercise for their professionalism and following the NDLEA standard operating procedure.
Marwa said: “I am impressed by the level of compliance with the directive to all our commands and formations to dismantle all drug joints within their areas of responsibility, mop up all illicit substances in such locations and arrest all those culpable.
“This will in no small measure take out of the equation, enablers of crime and violence such as illicit drugs, their dealers and all those relying on mind altering substances to disrupt the May 29 inauguration ceremonies across the states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
He however charged them to continue with the operational maxim of offensive action against drug cartels and traffickers until the last gramme of illicit drug is taken out of the streets and communities across the country.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has carried out a successful air interdiction, neutralizing scores of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and destroying their logistics hub in Arina, Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the air operation, which took place on March 9, 2025, at about 0600 hours, was executed based on credible human intelligence (HUMINT) and confirmatory intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
The sources intelligence revealed suspicious movements and a large gathering of terrorists at the location, prompting the coordinated air strikes.
According to the sources , the air strikes targeted terrorist logistics, structures, and fighters, dealing a significant blow to their operational capabilities.
“The precision airstrikes effectively neutralized many ISWAP fighters and disrupted their logistics chain in the area. The operation further weakens the group’s ability to launch attacks on civilian and military targets,” the source stated.

Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have neutralized a notorious bandit kingpin, Yusuf Gwamna, during a fierce encounter in the Dutsin-Ma area of Katsina State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama on Monday that several other terrorists were also eliminated in the operation.
Gwamna had long been a high-profile criminal, responsible for multiple attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across Katsina and neighboring states.
His reign of terror had instilled fear among local communities, making his elimination a major victory in the fight against banditry.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Repel ISWAP Attack on Local Security Outpost in Adamawa

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a local vigilante outpost in Sabon Gari, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State in the early hours of Sunday.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists launched the attack around 1:20 a.m., targeting local vigilantes near the Sambisa Forest border with Borno State.
During the assault, the insurgents killed one vigilante member and attempted to overrun the security post, but the troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) manned by troops of the 114 Battalion swiftly intervened and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee under heavy military fire.
It was gathered that several terrorists were wounded as traces of flood was found in their withdrawal routes.
The troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in coordination with local forces, defended the ground and prevented further casualties and damage.
Security sources confirmed that no military personnel were harmed.
