Nigeria: Troops repel Terrorists on Looting Spree in Yobe
Troops of sector 2 Joint Task force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai have repelled Boko Haram attack in Babbangina in Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe state in Northeast Nigeria.
The terrorists have come to loot food items and to collect taxes from the residents of the area but troops of sector 2 Joint Task Force arrived in time.
Residents said that, this was not the first time Boko Haram is visiting to loot the community but on this occasion the outing was not good for the terrorists as troops arrived to save situation.
Speaking on the attack troops of sector 2 Joint Task Force said, the insurgents invaded the community Wednesday evening, ransacked provision stores, and stole food items and medicines before fleeing as troops advanced.
“We recovered their truck, abandoned weapons, ammunition, and some of the looted items,” a military intelligence officer told Journalists
“They deliberately mined their escape routes with IEDs to deny the troops of pursuit,” he added.
Another source said, Troops have eliminated a number terrorist on a looting spree as well as uncover Boko Haram tax collectors in the area.

“It is unclear if the terrorists were of Boko Haram or Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).” He said
But Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations confirmed the operation under taken by troops of sector 2 Join Task Force in a statement.
According to him “One gun truck, one Dushka anti-aircraft gun, two AK 47 rifles and unprimed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were captured”,
Nwachukwu also said that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Faruk Yahaya has hailed the officers and men for their vigilance and swiftness in countering the assailants.
Meanwhile, a statement signed by the Director-General Press Affairs and Media, Mamman Mohammed, Buni said the bravery exhibited by the combatant soldiers in defeating the terrorists forced them to retreat into the bush.
“We are proud of our gallant troops who have shown great patriotism and superior firepower to deal with the terrorists.
“Your resilience, bravery, and gallantry made us all proud, the government and people of Yobe state, and Nigerians, in general, will continue to be with you” The governor said.
