Military Airstrikes Eliminates Scores of ISWAP fighters in Lake Chad

The Nigerian Military on Saturday carried out precision airstrikes against suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on an island in Lake Chad, killing several insurgents and destroying key logistical assets, the military confirmed.

The strikes were conducted after a series of air reconnaissance and interdiction mission covering the area between Gamboru and Lake Chad Island, in coordination with a Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) team operating in the theatre.

Zagazola Makama learnt that the Operation, coordinated at the Theartre Command North East Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, targeted a movement of ISWAP fighters.

Sources disclosed that a total of 12 boats, likely used for insurgent logistics, and a number of concealed shelters believed to store weapons, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices were identified.

“The aircraft carried out the first precision strike targeting a suspected IED-making facility. Subsequent assessment revealed insurgents fleeing in disarray,”said the sources.

Another strike was conducted at a location believed to serve as a command post or high-value target site, killing scores of fighters.

“Over 20 insurgents were seen attempting to evacuate casualties and transport wounded fighters, indicating significant disruption to their operational capability,”said the sources.

Police officer shot dead by gunmen in Suleja

A Senior Police Officer, SP Ayuba Micah, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of ‘A’ Division, Suleja, has been killed by suspected armed men.

The officer’s wife, Mrs. Asabe Micah, reported that three armed men invaded their residence at Behind Sandoco area of Suleja at about 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The assailants shot her husband and carted away their mobile phones.

Sources said the officer was rushed to the General Hospital, Suleja, where he was confirmed dead.

His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, while burial arrangements will be announced by the family.

Police arrest five IPOB/ESN terrorist suspects in Imo

The Police Command has arrested five suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Sources confirmed the arrest to Zagazola, saying that the suspects were arrested in Imo and Rivers States following intelligence-led operations.

The sources said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, sequel to the confession of two IPOB/ESN kingpins earlier arrested at the group’s B44 Camp in Ezioha.

According to the sources l, the suspects arrested include; Iwuji Chima, 33, of Ubah Agwa, Oguta LGA, a vigilante operative in Agwa allegedly working for ESN at B44 Camp, Chimezie Uwala, 32, of Ubah Agwa, Oguta LGA, described as an accomplice, Kingsley Melete, 51, of Ubah Agwa, Oguta LGA, a vigilante coordinator also accused of working with B44, Chinemere Nwoke, 24, of Obudi Agwa, Oguta LGA, alleged brother of a wanted ESN commander known as Charles, Ogochukwu Nwoke, 30, wife of the said commander Charles, currently at large.

Sources said the arrests followed tracking operations that began at Elele in Rivers State around 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 20, and continued in Agwa, Oguta LGA, Imo, at about 4:50 a.m.

Sources said the arrested kingpins confessed to their terrorism activities aimed at actualising a so-called Biafra Republic.

The sources added that investigations were ongoing to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
