The Borno State Police Command has launched a manhunt for four unidentified cattle herders who allegedly attacked a farmer with a machete while grazing on his farm in Felo community, Gubio Local Government Area.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Aug. 2 at about 7:30 a.m. when the victim, identified as Modu Kyellu, 30, was working on his millet farm in Kurnari village.

It was gathered that four herders drove their cattle into the millet field, and in an attempt by the farmer to chase them out, one of the herders attacked him with a machete, inflicting a deep cut on his left cheek.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack.

Police operatives from Gubio Division, in company with Civilian JTF and local hunters, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and took photographs.

The sources said that the injured victim was immediately evacuated to the Primary Healthcare Centre, Gubio, for medical treatment.

The sources added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects. The police have initiated mediation efforts through peace meetings involving the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Fulani leaders, and local farmers to prevent further escalation.
