Police secure release of kidnapped lawmaker, another victim in Nasarawa

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the release of Hon. Shagala Samuel, who was abducted by armed men along the Guzape–Abacha Barracks bypass on Feb. 25, 2025.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, in a statement on Tuesday, said the lawmaker was freed at about 1:33 a.m. on Feb. 27, following joint efforts by the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilantes.

He was released in the Yelwa Forest area of Nasarawa State, near Gbagalape village, Nyanya Mine.

Additionally, another victim, Nsiyan Chalse Eyang, who was kidnapped near the hills in Nyanya on Feb. 23 at about 8:30 p.m., regained his freedom on Feb. 26 after similar rescue efforts.

The Police assured that efforts were being intensified to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had taken over the investigation.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.

UPDATE: Residents of Tafoki Kill Three Injured Bandits After Failed Attack

Residents of Tafoki Village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State have killed three bandits who were wounded during a failed attack on the community, the police have confirmed.

The development follows an earlier attack on Feb. 25, when bandits, riding on about 100 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village but were repelled by a joint team of security forces.

During the exchange of gunfire, several bandits sustained injuries before fleeing into the forest.

Local sources, told Zagazola Makama that three of the injured attackers were captured by villagers on the morning of Feb. 26 and subsequently killed.

Security forces have been alerted to the development, while efforts to track down other fleeing bandits continue.

Gunmen Abduct Victims, Abandon Vehicles Near Abacha Barracks in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation following the suspected abduction of individuals near Abacha Barracks bypass in Guzape, Abuja.

Police Intelligence sources who confirmed the incident to Zagazola Makama said that the incident occurred on Feb. 25 at about 11:31 p.m.

He said that upon mobilizing a patrol team to the scene, officers discovered two abandoned vehicles: a black Toyota Prado Land Cruiser with registration number Abuja RBC 900 SF, belonging to Hon. Shagala Samuel, and a Honda Civic with registration number RSH 181 TH.

According to the source, it is suspected that the occupants of the vehicles may have been abducted by the armed assailants.

“The responding team immediately combed the surrounding area and nearby bushes, but no contact was made with the victims or the perpetrators,” the source disclosed.

Security operatives at key entry and exit points in the FCT have been placed on high alert, while the abandoned vehicles have been recovered to the police station for further investigation.

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command has since intensified efforts to locate the victims and track down the culprits.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, assuring the public that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.

Troops Neutralize Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Victims in Plateau

Troops of 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have neutralized two kidnappers and rescued a woman and her daughter in Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation took place on Feb. 23 at about 8:30 p.m. after troops received intelligence on the abduction of the victims in Gindiri Town.

Acting on the information, troops swiftly mobilized and pursued the kidnappers, making contact with them on the outskirts of the town. In the ensuing gunfight, two of the kidnappers were neutralized, while another was captured with fatal injuries.

The abducted woman and her daughter were successfully rescued without harm and taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (Gindiri Branch) for first aid before being reunited with their family.

Troops have since intensified patrols in the area to enhance security and boost public confidence.
