Rotary, groups donate sanitary kits, others to women, girls in FCT community

The Rotary Club of Abuja Gudu, in partnership with PeachAid Medical Initiative on Tuesday, donated sanitary kits and reusable pads to women and girls in the Ruga Fulani community.

Ms Chinelo Audrey-Ofoegbunam, the Club’s President said in Abuja that Rotary also received support from the Miriam Gofwan Women and Children Foundation.

Audrey-Ofoegbunam said that the target was to create awareness on health and education for local birth attendants, to prevent maternal and child deaths.

She said that the project tagged, “Ruga Maternal Health Workforce” was aimed at carrying out antenatal care services, pregnancy ultrasound scanning and distribution of birthing kits.

She noted that through the partnership, menstrual health education, menstrual cups distribution, distribution of mosquito nets, training on reusable pads had been achieved.

The president said that intervention in the community which started in 2020, with the donation of a water facility, halted the treks of long distances in search of water.

According to her, Rotary adopted the community to provide clean water, food, health supplies that will make lives better for the people.

Such interventions, she said, had featured the sensitisation and training of women and girls on making and using reusable pads.

”It will be recalled that the club has facilitated the distribution of hepatitis vaccines, with the third dose being given also,” she said.

Audrey-Ofoegbunam further said that the club also commissioned a solar-powered electricity project for Ruga Fulani Community in the FCT.

She said that the project, donated by the Rural Electrification Agency, was facilitated by Mr Amwe Raphel, a member of the club.

She also said that with the support of the Rural Electrification Agency, the club received donations of five light coordinates and mounting poles.

According to her, the project is necessary for community development, peacebuilding, conflict prevention and resolution.

The Club’s Community Service Director, Mr Mundong Dachi, appreciated the people for accepting the club to have the various interventions.
